Quantity of Belle Saison to use?

You’re not wrong about that yeast, smashed the gravity from 1.052 to 1.005 in 3 days. Insane! Could hear the airlock wailing from outside the fridge, family was giving it a wide berth for a bit. It’s calmed right down now, I’ll tell you something else too. That brewing fridge smells bloody...

Quantity of Belle Saison to use?

Mornin’ all. Brewing a Saison as of last night and it’s currently sat in its Naughty Cube cooling off to initial fermentation temp. I’ve got a couple packets of Belle Saison ready to rehydrate, but I’m not sure whether I need both initially. I usually chuck a couple packets in for my other ales...

Downed my first Saison today, hooked!

Just had a peek at the IBC site, looks fantastic. There is a stockist not so far from me so looks like I shall pay them a visit. [emoji16]

Downed my first Saison today, hooked!

Nice one, I’ll keep my eye out for it. Think it may take a bit of searching but I’m sure it will be well worth it. Cheers!

Downed my first Saison today, hooked!

Tried my first Saison today, a Bridge Road Brewers ‘Chevalier Saison’. I’ve been doing a fair bit of reading about them and was pretty certain I would enjoy. Man, it’s a crackerjack! Such a herby, fruity funk. I am not disappointed at all. This has now been confirmed as my next batch to go down...

The True/er/est/ish History of the Indian PAle Ale

I enjoy reading about the history and theories, who knows how right or wrong they may be. I am of the belief that an IPA wasn’t necessarily ‘invented’ as such, more an evolution of trial/error and innovations of the time. Britain was fast approaching an industrial revolution after all! I do...

Dry hopping when the Krausen won't drop

Good call, I’ll keep a beady eye on it.

Dry hopping when the Krausen won't drop

Again, a quick search answers my impending queries to the letter! I also have a monster Krausen (US-05) but just launched the cascade and galaxy pellets in. Smells amazing! Cheers

    Auto Siphon ‘mare!

Put down my third brew last night and all was going well. Mashed bang on temp, hit pre-boil SG to with 3 points. Boiled well, pretty much nailed post book volume so had high hopes for the OG. Whirlpool and rest went well, and finally on to siphoning off to the NC cube. What a disaster! The auto...

    No Chill bitterness effects?

Silicon hose purchased, my other was making boiled water taste foul, much worse than any water I tried out of the rinsed cube. The cube just tasted very very faintly of hops from last batch. I’m thinking I might have found the culprit of the highly plastic taste. As for the temp I have purchased...

    No Chill bitterness effects?

Hydrometer, I’ve checked it to 20c water and it’s pretty much on the nose.

    No Chill bitterness effects?

Nope, it was under temp control at a steady 18.5, took off like a rocket but was pretty much steady at 1.026 after a week. I pitched more yeast and raised to 21 to try and bring it down a few points but nothing doing.

    No Chill bitterness effects?

It was meant to be 68, in reality it would have been closer to 74-75.

    No Chill bitterness effects?

Hmmm, the only other thing that I can think of is that my equip profile boil off rate is way too high. I did end up with about 4l more than anticipated, that won’t help.

    No Chill bitterness effects?

To add to the above post, my thermometer was screwed so mash temp was approximately 6 higher than required. The fermentation stopped at 1.026 so it’s a 3% Beer!

    No Chill bitterness effects?

I tried a taste again today, to be honest the bitterness isn’t as bad as I was expecting. It’s actually quite refreshing in the mouth. However the beer feels thin, watery and lacking any obvious flavour. I mean you can detect a faint hoppiness but nothing as fruity as I would expect from the...

    No Chill bitterness effects?

Let us know how that bad boy goes, this is how I might go for the next one. Funnily enough when I put the hops into BeerSmith based on the recipe stated at start of thread the IBU is nearly 70 anyway. That’s pretty damn bitter, right? Looks a bit OTT for an APA by my reckoning. ****, there’s so...

    No Chill bitterness effects?

I'm throwing a brew down this weekend. I will slightly tweak the additions and see what comes out. Nice one.
