What are you Brewing - 2018

This one is loosely based off one of the first American craft beers- Pete's Wicked Ale. Good brew day today. Late start but had nothing to do all day except brew. Still need to pitch the yeast when she gets down to fermentation temp. Getting into BB ale malt and cascade lately. Style...

    Using wheat in pale ale

yes and no. I do a pale ale that is about 5% English crystal at about 90 EBC and the rest golden promise and it is on the light end of the pale ale spectrum and definitely not cloying so I wouldn't be concerned about that. But the idea, as far as I know, is that wheat can add both "crispness"...

Another Kegging (for a beginner) Thread

    2) this is actually a pretty important question and not one that gets discussed on here much because, despite some exceptions, we are probably all fairly heavy drinkers. I would say having beer on tap definitely increases consumption for me. If you like the taste of your beer, and I like...

    Galaxy Amarillo pale ale?

hmmm I agree with going with more amarillo than galaxy so as not to completely drown out the amarillo but that might be a bit too far towards the amarillo. I would do a 50/50 whirlpool galaxy and amarillo and then dry hop 80/20 amarillo/galaxy. In my opinion the galaxy has not been as good in...

    Feelers out for polyclar

biofine clear is very good simply because it's easy. 10-20ml squirt into the keg tends to solve most haze/clarity issues. If it doesn't come perfectly clear after a couple of days another 10ml usually does the trick.

    Newbie equipment setup

With a budget of $500 a stainless fermenter is a real luxury. I would get a fridge with temp controller first. Then work the rest of your budget around that. U can get some very cheap fridges. I see hoppydays.com.au has a special on robobrews for 300 i think. That would be a great investment...

that is a **** ton of honey man! The 500 grams I added was a very pale delicate honey and the finished beer was very strong smelling and tasting of honey. I would advise not adding the extra 500 grams, especially if the honey is a darker kind. depends what you like though. I drank my lager quite...

    Experience with plastic bottles.

You've just realised one of the great truths of brewing - bottling sucks. Get some kegs and don't look back!!

    Alternative no chill method

I think if you wanted to go for the pitch-the-next-day method you'd be better off putting the lid on the boiler and leaving it in there overnight. You can be pretty sure the boiler is going to be sterilised from boiling for an hour. It's just the matter of trying to sanitise the lid. If you put...

What are you Brewing - 2018

I recently did a honey lager and it turned out really well. I used all vienna malt with a touch of munich and 500grams of honey in a 23L batch. I added the honey at high krausen and it had a lovely honey flavour and aroma. Quite strong. When did you add the honey? I found it needed the Vienna...
