Why do ALL of my can kits taste bad?

Cool, I'll experiment with the water, that makes the most sense to me so far. Where should I start? 1. I have an RO/DI filter from my old aquarium days, it still works well but I worry about sanitation. 2. I could buy some bottles from Aldwoolcoles, I know people do this, but without chlorine...

Why do ALL of my can kits taste bad?

These points are very reassuring. Thanks. I may give US05 a go if it comes to that. My reservation is that I really want to get the signature ester profile of the commercial beer. Given that it's only POR hops and an ordinary malt bill the esters are the main thing that makes Coopers Pale Ale...

Why do ALL of my can kits taste bad?

Awesome, that gives me hope. May I ask some tips? Do you use BE2? Do you reculture the coopers yeast or use the satchel with the can? What temp do you ferment at? Does it to throw pear esters like the original? Do you oxygenate? How fresh are your cans? Is it okay if they are a couple of months...

Why do ALL of my can kits taste bad?

So this has me stumped. I’ve been brewing for about 8 years. I started with Coopers kits and I could never get them to taste even remotely good. It’s a miracle that I persevered with brewing after so much disappointment but thankfully when I moved to extracts (and all grain soon after) my beers...

Whirlpool Vessi. Possibly a cheaper WW?

Admittedly they can be a bit of a gamble, I've heard some horror stories about what can go wrong with unscrupulous founders. Thankfully all 5 campaigns I've backed so far were delivered, mostly on time too. I wonder what measures are in place to protect whirlpool's good reputation from this...

    Matho's controller

Perfect, thanks! Sorry, my bad yes it is specific to Lael's kit. I didn't think it fit into the "buy" thread and didn't notice the other build thread. Awesome, that backs up GibboQLD's advice so the world makes sense! Brew day is tomorrow, gotta get soldering! EDIT: Success, it works! Thanks...

    Matho's controller

Can anyone direct me to the pinout for the probe used in the Matho's Brauduino controller? I used to wire them like this for my projects: But I'm pretty sure it's wired up differently for the brauduino.

A tidy little HLT stirrer build.

I've always had mixed results hitting mash temperatures on my 3V setup. I suspected there might be some "thermal stratification" going on inside my hot liquor tank and that the convective currents from my heater weren't enough to heat the water evenly. I googled around and there was a lot of...

Whirlpool Vessi. Possibly a cheaper WW?

SWMBO just sent me through the linky for their indiegogo campaign: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/vessi-beer-fermentor-and-dispenser--4#/ There's a lot of innovation going on in this space lately. I will be cheering if Whirlpool can eventually build these cheaper than a bar fridge :)

Splitting the power supply for temp controlled fermentation fridge.

Thanks for this info klangers, I always wondered how they worked. For fridges with separate fridge/freezer temperature controls I can't imagine how they'd work using two evaporators (unless they vary the pressures somehow). Could it be that these types of fridges use the latter approach cooling...

Splitting the power supply for temp controlled fermentation fridge.

I think I'll be giving this a shot with one of my fermenting fridge/freezers. It seems to operate the way trevgale describes with all the cooling happening in the freezer and air being ducted into the fridge space as necessary. Just need to override that ducting fan then I should have a working...

    Cheap heated stirplate

Aww noo! We just totally ran out of stock of the Digi Plates today. I'll PM with some options.

    Brewometer

Yep, using gravity feedback to step through our fermentation temperature schedules would be a step forward for brewing. Currently we've got BrewPi, STC1000+, or OhmBrew's fermostat but they only follow a time schedule AFAIK.

+1 I had serious concerns about my fermentation temperature control until I eventually got around to logging it. Having a nifty BLE device and an App on your phone to display charts would be neat.

    Brewometer

I was very interested in this project when it was on kickstarter and didn't realise they were still persevering after the failed campaign. My worry about the S.G. readings, aside from krausen and hop material stuffing up the accuracy is when it gets swished around with fermentation activity and...

*popcorn* Please do check back with your results, I'm really interested in this product and there just aren't enough posts with real world results. Great to know a fellow Aussie is trying it out down under! Nice setup BTW. Is that a glass door fridge?

What type of beer glass is this?

Thanks for the suggestions, after some lengthy googling I've found some matching glasses, E.g. here and here. They call it a "Craft Beer Glass" which sounds a bit generic, so I'd still love to know if there's a more official name for this shape. Cheers :D

What type of beer glass is this?

I've seen this style of glass a few times at commercial venues: I don't remember what I drank from it, but I imagine it would be great for an AIPA or red ale, maybe even a wheat beer? All my google image searches are coming up with no matches. So can anyone tell me what style of glass this...
