Anyone with a grain mill in Melbourne NE suburbs? Need an urgent crush!

Basically, it's a home made one I made using in old pasta maker following a DIY instructable online. It was useless and finally stopped working today. I only really got it working once, and even then the crush was rubbish and I had bad efficiency. It's now on the rubbish pile.

Anyone with a grain mill in Melbourne NE suburbs? Need an urgent crush!

Is there anyone in the NE suburbs of Melbourne who would kindly let me run about 4 kgs through their grain mill? Mine just clapped out before a brew, and alas there are no LHBS locally that are open. I'll happily pass on a few beers in exchange. I'm in Greensborough. Fingers crossed!

White Labs WLP059 Melbourne Ale yeast to be released

I brewed the 1917 Tooths Ale from the link on White Labs website on Sat. Smelled awesome when it was transferred to the fermenter. Pitched yeast on Monday and checked this morning to find the brew fridge is now sitting at 23C (it's set to 19.5C) and the beer is bubbling like mad. It's only a...

White Labs WLP059 Melbourne Ale yeast to be released

I haven't actually checked in the book to see which recipe it specifically relates to, and I'm at work now so don't have it handy (working very hard as you can see). I did however take the attached photo of the recipe they used, which should help narrow it down. It was pretty damned nice in my...

White Labs WLP059 Melbourne Ale yeast to be released

Thought I'd mention that I was at Grain & Grape yesterday for a gas swap and had a bit of a moment with their sample taps. One of the beers there was called Melbourne Ale and it mentioned it was brewed using WLP059. I asked if they had the recipe, and when they gave it to me, I saw that it was...

    Recommended stir plate for starters

I don't think a fan controller is a must. An on/off/on toggle switch and a resistor is a good alternative. Not shitting on the controller idea, but just putting it out there if u already have that stuff.

    Recommended stir plate for starters

I just made my own out of an old computer fan and some bits and bobs. Pretty basic wiring, a switch from Jaycar, a resistor to give me two speeds, a case, and an old charger I had kicking about. I got the magnet out of an old hard drive. Those magnets are as strong as all get out! Works a...

    Infection Photo Thread

Anyone got any thoughts on this WLP840 American Lager yeast starter? It's the second step (it was an older vial). I suspect it's OK, but the krausen is very thick and aggressive. Maybe just the kind of yeast??

    Where is the stout head?

Definitely not the issue. I'm well into my beer drinking career to know that a clean glass is non-negotiable. Solid advice though.

    Where is the stout head?

The carbonation on mine was on the lower side. I typically don't mine lower carb on ales and stouts. I'm sure that's not the cause. Sounds like most people are saying to toast or cook the oats first. Now that I really think of it, it may have even been rolled oats. I better check. It was...

    Where is the stout head?

Good responses so far! Yes, I used supermarket quick oats. I did too much research, you know the kind where you find arguments supporting both views, then you end up picking the one that is easiest for you - ie. quick oats. Maybe that's my problem. I just threw them in the mash from memory...

    Where is the stout head?

Hey fellas, With winter coming up quickly, I want to brew a nice toasty stout to keep me warm and happy! Last year I brewed an oatmeal stout am very happy with the flavor (could be a bit toastier though), the beer holds no head. Lasts about 10 seconds. I did some reading and a few people said...
