Is chill in fermenter really that bad ?

Yep & yep. In this weather (Melbourne) I would say 24 hours is plenty. Might even get too cold.

    Keg carbonation

Yeah fair enough. Might take a little bit longer at that temp, but sounds like that's not an issue. You might already be all over it, but this is the calculator I used for balancing my kegs. Worked a treat for me. I was foaming all over the place before using this...

    Keg carbonation

I keep mine on 24/7. Less effort, same amount of gas being absorbed. As long as you're keeping the beer under constant 12psi pressure and the beer is cold, it will eventually carb to 12psi. I do 12psi for my carbing and serving pressure. It usually takes a week to get to the right pressure. It's...

    Should I get into kegging?

I guess that depends on your soil. Once you plant them and get them established, they grow like a weed. You just need to provide something for them to climb, and give them plenty of sunlight, water etc. It's not difficult.

Yep. As I menioned in the OP: Would prefer pick-up from NE suburbs of Melbourne, but can post at your expense. From what I've read, posting to Tas and WA is pretty tricky so I'll have to exclude those states, sorry.

It's possible. They've been growing in the region wild since war times apparently so it could have spread from seed. If you do go there, it's lovely.

    Licorice in stout?

In my early kit days I used to add a few drops of licorice essence (or aniseed) to coopers stout kits. I liked it. Sometimes I'd use black jellybeans to prime the bottles. I probably wouldn't do it now, but it wasn't unpleasant. Agree with one of the comments above that a capful is a lot. Just a...

Some more info on the Otway variety: I got my original rhizome from another AHB member AJ80. Around that time he mentioned that his had flowered a little bit, and "The flowers were quite interesting, quite earthy and spicy with just a touch of fruit."

I don't mind at all. 1. No I don't sorry. Just had a look. I've only had it in the ground for one season, and to be honest I didn't put much effort into it. It did flower, but they were very small and very few. I think if they received some proper attention they might provide decent yield...

    Dry hop scheduling, help please!

Are you kegging? If so, maybe just keg it now, then do the final dry hopping in the keg when you get back. Use some fishing line or something so you can get it back out again. At least that way it's not going to sit on the initial hops for too long getting grassy.
