    Ferment in a Kettle (FIAK)

In a rush I’ve done that, straight into the cube after the boil. Resulting beer tasted fine but was hazy.

    Whirlpool and/or wait 15mins.

    Stir Plate

My old digital one could easily handle 5L and was whisper quiet. Sold it when I had a few years out of brewing unfortunately. The KL one is noisy as hell ( need to use it in the garage ) and fairly basic in design but does work. My flask is domed on the bottom and its a pain in the arse to get...

    Stir Plate

I dont think that’ll hold a 5 litre flask. I have one and it’s ok for 3 litres but I don’t know about a 5 litre. Others may have tried it though

First Stout - it's gone berserk!

Context is pretty clear in the second paragraph if you read it.

First Stout - it's gone berserk!

I thought you made that point quite clearly. Clearly enough to not need any further explanation.

    GUTEN

I’m going to try that on my brewzilla cheers. I’ve never had a batch that looked like over flowing and it’d be good to give the mash an occasional stir, particularly with adjunct beers.

    GUTEN

FWIW I’ve never used the top screen in my robo. I choke the pump down to a fairly slow flow for recirc.

    Cleaning Plastic Fermenters

What oils do you get in your fermenter? Have used sod perc for many years and it’s never failed to clean my gear. Ran out recently and bought PBW. Works great but leaves a slick residue that needs rinsing. Never had that with pure sod perc

    Grainfather or BrewZilla?

The thing with the new cheap single vessels is that they’re so cheap it wouldn’t bother me to replace it every few years. I’ve had my robo since November and have done 34 batches in it. On track for 40 a year. That’s 120 in 3 years, not bad considering how much money I’m saving by not buying...

Haha yes, the stovetop espresso has never been cleaner!

    Cleaning Plastic Fermenters

Cheapest way is in 25kg sacks from a local chemical supply place ( this will be pure sodium per carbonate ). Or online in kg amounts. In a pinch napisan has it in smaller concentrations By the way, 25kg will last a lifetime so maybe split with other brewers in your area It’s also very good for...

    Cleaning Plastic Fermenters

Hot hot water, sodium percarbonate and shake. Let it sit for a while and a soft cloth ( blue chux ) and wipe it. Soak overnight if really bad

    Grainfather or BrewZilla?

It’s not overly hard to manually program, I’ve never used the automated mash steps. Set temp put timer on my phone and come back when the phone goes off. I don’t take into account heating time between steps and nothing bad has ever happened.

    Grainfather or BrewZilla?

My brewzilla has done 30+ batches since November with zero issues with software or hardware

    Grainfather or BrewZilla?

Hey mate, I recently got a brewzilla. After having a few different setups over the last 15+ years, I love the fact it takes up hardly any room and works great. 3V is great but my old setup took up much more room than the brewzilla. My keggle BIAB was better than the 3V and worked fine, but my...

Whats a good extract kit to use a Philly sour yeast with

I tried a non fruit beer first to see how I liked the flavour. I really like it. I think it’d go great with fruit.Fruited beers are a pain in the arse though, you’ll need to finish fermentation, then transfer to a secondary on top of the fruit, wait for it to ferment, then deal with a lot of...

Whats a good extract kit to use a Philly sour yeast with

Something very light and crisp imho. I made a low alc Berliner Weiss for my first attempt with the philly sour. For a kit a lager or even wheat beer would go well. I’d recommend adding some sugar, it apparently likes simple sugars and a drier beer works well with sours. Just my opinions...

    Reducing Oxidation while Bottling

I have never noticed oxidation in my bottled beers and I angle the bottle to the fermenter tap ( standard ) and slowly fill. I leave most bottled beers for weeks, and saison I don’t touch for months ( try to anyway ) and don’t notice any oxidation.
