    Matilda Bay: Dirty Granny Cider

Maybe I'll chuck in a couple of teabags as well. Did you just chuck them in the fermentor with the tea?

    Matilda Bay: Dirty Granny Cider

Ok, decided to go simple. 100% apple juice and s-04. After ferment the girlfriend can give it a taste and I'll backsweeten with lactose at bulk prime if she thinks it's too dry. Thanks for the help fellas

    Matilda Bay: Dirty Granny Cider

Thanks mate. So having lactose in the wort during ferment won't alter the sweetness or give off any off flavours?

    Matilda Bay: Dirty Granny Cider

lol, been a long time since I took a sip of it (a sip is all I ever had) and from my memory I thought it was pretty dry, compared to most commercial ciders anyway. She doesn't mind if the taste isn't exactly the same, just the style. I was going to go 100% apple juice and some kind of cider...

    First BIAB

Hey, thanks for the info mate.I'll definitely look into maxibiab. But you're right I will just be using my 19L pots this round. TBH I somehow doubt I'll be doing much extract brewing after I try this so I was thinking of upgrading to a 40L pot and getting a four ring burner. Which obviously I'll...

    Matilda Bay: Dirty Granny Cider

The girlfriend loves cider and this is her favorite. I don't drink the stuff (don't like ciders). Has anyone here drunk this cider before? If so any ideas on a recipe. Cheers

    First BIAB

Thanks fellas. All the help is much appreciated. Thanks mate, I'll take your advice and won't sparge. Me thinks this will be a steep learning curve. I'll post my results in a few weeks when I brew it.

    First BIAB

Sweet thanks diggs. Been researching all night but I still have one thing I cant figure out. The calculations automatically done in beer mate account for a water loss due to grain absorption of .60 L/Kg. Does this take into account squeezing the grains or do I need to lower this? It just seems...

    First BIAB

Sorry peeps, just plugged the recipe into beer mate using all grain for the first time and it had all the water volumes needed etc. Is beermate usually pretty accurate with that stuff?

    First BIAB

Hey guys, I've done plenty of K&K and a couple of extracts/partials but now I want to try an AG (after tasting a few AG vs. my extracts), I thought it might be a bit early in my brewers life to give it a go but I thought **** it i'll give it a crack. I'm keen to try Dr Smurtos Golden Ale after...

You could plug your recipe into beermate or similar software and it will give you approx og and fg. It's a free and quick download

Complete Newbie with some easy questions

Everyone talks about the stick on thermometers being inaccurate. I have used 4 on my "main fermentor" and all of them have been spot on. Tested with a thermocouple multimeter. I must be lucky :P

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Dextrinous wort means less fermentable sugars right? The recipe I used was 3kg DME and 250g crystal so im guessing this is a pretty dextrinous wort?

    Need a beer with drinking

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

thanks for the reply stewy. I set the attenuation at 75% as I've read it is between about 73 - 77. In saying that I did read alot of people like yourself that get much higher. I've been K&K for a while now, this is my first extract. The cold break scared the **** out of me till I looked it up lol

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Also, I ended up with an OG of 1.056, I just checked my recipe on Brewmate and it was meant to be 1.059 - 250g Crystal steeped for 30 mins at 68*c - Grains removed, wort brought to boil - Removed from heat and 3kg LDME added - Brought back to boil for 60 minutes of hop additions - Ice bath to...

    Sierra Nevada Pale Ale

Brewed this today, all went well apart from not having enough ice so it cooled down slower than I would've liked post boil. Didn't smell as hoppy as I thought it would, with around 100g of hops I was expecting a bit more aroma. Maybe this will come after some sugars ferment out? I'm excited for...

    Bottle carbing

It will still carbonate at 15. Just takes a bit longer. Mine sit at around 12 - 15 and still carb up nicely.
