Anyone aged cheap Port on Oak chips etc?

Penfolds Old Tawny in a cask is cheap as, & in my opinion a really good port, i prefer it to some of the so called top shelf Aussie ports. Certainly try it on oak, just remember to remove the oak as soon as you reach the oak level you want. Cheers Ross

    Keg Transfer Made Easy...

It does sound like you're sucking in some air somewhere during the transfer. Once a siphon starts, it really should continue till finished. Cheers Ross

    T-58?

Mash head, you say the beer has been fermenting for less than a week and the beer is not at final gravity yet. Why do you expect it to be clear? It's still fermenting, just give it time. Only transfer to secondary if if and when you want to bulk prime, otherwise just leave it alone and bottle...

Plastic bottles leaking during secondary fermentation

It's not the cap, unfortunately there are a heap of these bottles on the market with tiny pin prick holes in them. Very hard to spot, but you'll end up with exactly what you've experienced. Cheers Ross

Hi Batz, No, they are the regular S/S Perlicks. cheers Ross

    Flow Control Perlicks in Stainless

No, it happens to old & new. They don't actually wear out, they just stretch out of shape & then leak. I think it was TidalPete that recommended leaving the stretched seal in hot water overnight & they reform back to normal, this certainly works in our experience. Cheers Ross

    Flow Control Perlicks in Stainless

Batz, when they are working they are great, but the o'ring under the tap handle is prone to failure (it stretches & leaks) & the result is beer foaming out of the base of the tap handle. We've already had one commercial Bar lose a keg of beer overnight all over their floor. In the shop we have...

    Herbs in non-hopped beers

......It's why we use hops :) Don't get me wrong, I love seeing people brew with ancient herbs & spices, but there's a reason beer is now made with hops - THEY TASTE BETTER. Cheers Ross

    Flow Control Perlicks in Stainless

Guys, I'm simply passing on what the Australian distributor said, I know little else or would have elaborated. From what I understand, the mechanisms will remain unchanged (the one thing I would have liked to see improved), so spare parts will not be an ongoing issue, put the design (appearance)...

    Flow Control Perlicks in Stainless

One thing to be aware of, that nobody as far as I've seen, who's selling them has mentioned... The current design available in Australia in very limited quantities is already basically obsolete. There is apparently a design infringement & there will be no more made until the taps have been...

    Williamswarn Personal Brewery

Hi Wobbly, You boast the system is producing you ester free ales. Esters are a very important part of ales, so not sure why you see this as a plus. But hey, if it's what you want & that's what you're getting, then great :) Cheers Ross

Quality of disconnects.. do I need new ones..

Donske, we have both. The Chinese ones we sell are directly imported by us & have given us virtually no trouble. Certainly not had a single complaint of leaking disconnects that i can recall. If you are having trouble getting on & off, have you tried a little lube or new O'rings? Cheers Ross

    Hopsock vs Hopscreen

I would suggest getting a magnet & testing the locking pin. All tea strainers I've found have steel pins (chrome plated) & after a short while they'll corrode & rust in your beer - AVOID - it's why we no longer sell them. If it's non-magnetic, please let me know as I've been unable to source...

Screw you Abbott! The silent assassin.

As Liam referenced, it's indexed to CPI biannually, though the small rebate we currently get is not. Don't blame you for thinking it was something else after the rhetoric being displayed by the Abbot haters. Cheers Ross

Screw you Abbott! The silent assassin.

As a brewer I'd love to see some reduction on excise, especially for small business, this rise though has nothing to do with the current Abbot government, not that the Abbot bashers let the facts worry them
