    Ebay, Gumtree and FB Marketplace

couple of crab cooker's on Gumtree, apparenty 20L each seem to have electric elements and sight glass's and faucet's so might make pretty good BIAB urns for someone looking to get into AG, and all thats required is a gooooooooood clean...

Anyone doing 2V full volume mash?

i dabbled with 2v for a while with a keggle boiler and esky mashtun, became a bit of stuffing about having to heat the strike water in the boiler and then pump to esky and then pump wort back etc etc im now set up for 3v with the addition of a HLT to heat up strike and sparge water, also allows...

Can I use a keg as secondary in fridge

true that, on a bit of research, it appears the sachet of yeast under the lid of the European Lagers is S-189 Swiss Lager, and can produce some mighty fine beers, and to me, produces a bit of a cleaner profile over the other dry lager yeast's

    Chiller - your experience

The only gripe i have with plate chillers and most one-pass methods is that while youre chilling, most of the wort is still at near boiling temps, so isomerization's still occuring, right? Same with no chill and aroma hop issues there but to a lesser degree Thats why Jamil Z elects not to use...

temp probe outside or in fermenter?

really accurate actually! i use an Atkin's Aquatuff which provides a plus or minus 0.3*c accuracy at ambient temperatures, the probe is a cheap one and the cable to the connectors a bit long so the reading is slightly delayed but this is no issue for the relatively slow moving temps of...

temp probe outside or in fermenter?

Im doin it a littleeee different and using a stainless K-type thermocouple thats secured into my fermenter. Bit more contact and accuracy over a thermowell and less movement than just chucking it in the wort! Works for me

    WTB: wort chiller

hey all, done tinkering with my hop additions and no-chilling so am after a cheap immersion chiller, after a 50ft either copper or stainless one to fit a keggle opening and just seeing if theres any better options before i hit up eBay for a sweet american deal since unlike australia, copper is...

    Setting a Keg King Regulator

The pressure release valve's assembly allows you to adjust the pressure at which it purges i believe - the tighter it is the higher the pressure etc etc i could be wrong though. Either way, you can unscrew the inner valve so best make sure its done up nice and good or use a bit of keg lube if...

60L bins for grain storage, heads up

You fellas reckon you could squish a corny keg in there with the lid on?

    Winter Conditioning

Assuming fermentations complete and the yeast have cleaned up any of their icky fermentation by products at the 20*c, i couldnt see any harm in doing that! Heck, most people cold-condition for the entirety of the beers life straight after fermentation anyway by kegging them and fridging them...

She wants a Pilsner and a Strawberry Beer

If youre not too set on the mango or strawberry i'd strongly suggest a watermelon wheat! I make one each summer using 50% German pils, 40% german wheat and 10% rolled wheat mashed at 65*c. Hopped with cascade to 11ibus at the 45ish mark and fermented with your choice of a wheat yeast like WB-06...

    Cleaning kegs

I heard that bleach has a habit of degrading stainless over time, whether thats true or not im not sure but i sont have any reason to go past sodium perc/nappi san since it works so well and can be left there indefinately afaik

    Thoughts on this temp controller?

Bought this off ebay on a whim hoping to set up an old fridge as a fermentation chamber, rather than getting an STC-1000 or similar and having to wire it up myself. What are peoples thoughts? Anyone have any experience or hear of anyone else's? Cheers, Nathan http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/281238312740

    Black malt substitute

I had the same problem, but CraftBrewer have it at a good price online, and for the amounts that most recipe's call for, which is usually less than 100 grams, postage shouldnt be too much anyway. I got the 5kg satchel and padded out the postage costs by buying spec grains for a few recipes and...

It's... the 2014 Extra Special Brewers Homebrew Competition

Might be a dumb question but is it possible to enter into this NSW comp as a Victorian? Never entered a comp so not sure what the go is in regard to postage of beer etc.
