    Moving from K&K to AG

Hardly in “prime of life” and definitely not a Viking. Come on guys 50kg -60kg isn’t that outrageous to lift is it? I’ve been semi retired and fairly inactive for over 10 years now so not very fit, not something I do every day but lifting a 60L fermenter with 55L of beer in it every few weeks I...

    Moving from K&K to AG

I wasn’t replying to the OP. If you take a look above I quoted and replied to golfandbrew post #2 who mentioned lifting 15kg of wet grain. I average about 9kg dry grain for 55L brew length so 15kg sounded about right to me. Personally I wouldn’t consider BIAB for a 60L brew length though. I...

    Moving from K&K to AG

I5kg is not really that heavy or hard to lift for most people if you think about it. If it was say a suitcase with a handle you would probably lift and carry it without a thought? Remove the handle and it becomes awkward to lift and carry. So yep, it could be awkward if you have 15kg of hot wet...

    Sweet Hard Apple Cider

Could use PET bottles so you can give them a squeeze to check the pressure and release a bit if necessary.

    My malting procedure

I suspect it could be worst! (arguably). Wouldn’t surprise me if he just lets them dry out slowly laid out in full sun to die!

Is that a typo? Is it really 20l out or just 2l?

    Co2 disaster

Just thought I would add, if you have a keg or in this case half a keg and intended to consume it within a few days (3-4 days, possibly 5 at a push) you can always dispense it with air using a bicycle pump. Worth bearing in mind if you run out of co2.

    Hops growing - wicking beds

That’s what I had read and thought just over 6 m should be enough but one of the hops reached the top so I had to lower them all down and add another section of tube. A few days later it had almost reached the top again so I lowered the ******* down and snipped the top shoot off.

    Hops growing - wicking beds

It has 4 ropes and 1 black paracord. I added the paracord a week or so ago as I had taken cuttings from the others and they have started growing. I had to make my trellis in a hurry so just used what I had to hand which happened to be an old trampoline I had dismantled. The poles that held up...

    Hops growing - wicking beds

I use half plastic drums and a bath as wicking beds, similar to Grmblz set up but I only have about 12cm of gravel or blue metal at the bottom and a short length of ag pipe connected to a fermenter tap on the drums and a tank connector as a riser pipe from the bath plug hole. The drums and bath...

Help - ready to rack, but dry hopping has clogged the tap. Fixes?

If you can’t unblock it use a siphon for this brew. If you don’t have anything to hand clear vinyl tube from Bunnings will do the job. Or if the fermenter has a lid with o ring you can bung up the airlock hole and tip the fermenter gently on its side and replace the tap. Had to do that once...

Bulk Oxidizing Agent PBW or Similar

Sorry I didn’t read through the whole tread, does it go on to describe how to clean a keg with the spear removed? I wasn’t suggesting rolling 50L around, just 3-4L in a keg.

Bulk Oxidizing Agent PBW or Similar

Sorry to confuse matters I was trying to simplify them. Mark has given a very detailed account of how to clean kegs in a commercial environment and went on to describe how he does it at home which is similar to what I do but I thought that may have been lost in his long detailed post so was just...

Bulk Oxidizing Agent PBW or Similar

That’s not really what mark is discussing, he is talking about cleaning kegs with the spear in place. As the OP only has 1 keg with the spear removed he needs to clean this can be done easily without any CIP gear. Simply fill the kegmenter with a few litres of hot cleaner of your choice and...

what gadgets do you guys need when you do home brewing?

I recently bought an ITC-308 Wifi temp controller. I really like it and being able to adjust the temp and other settings via the Inkbird plus app I find it far easier to use and adjust settings than my ITC-310T-B temp controller. As an added bonus I found the app records a temp trend diagram so...

    Helix

That really surprises me, your experience is the opposite to mine. I haven’t had any clogging or even noticed any reduction in flow. I do run the pump fairly slowly though. Do you run your pump full bore? Perhaps compacting trub around the coil?

    Helix

I’ve only been using one for a few months but I think they would be near impossible to clog up. Brewed a few weeks ago and added late hops after whirlpool no problem. What I did was whirlpool and let it settle for about 5 mins then recirculated with a pump for about 10 mins then connected a...

James May's new old pub (video tour)

He may not be short of a quid or two but he doesn’t strike me as a fool. It was probably a bargain investment. They will give it a lick of paint and open for business. But if it continues to make a loss it will shut down again then apply for planning permission to convert to residential.

    Sickly sweet taste after kegging

That was also my first thought. Easy enough to test with a hydro sample and see if FG has returned to OG.
