    Looking for hop plants

I grew a few from cuttings a few months ago. When I was cutting back the shoots I just stuck them in small pots of damp garden soil stood in water. Didn’t have room to replant them all but re potted a couple in December and they are doing ok.

Guess whats happening in my fermenter. Red line is sg blue is temp

If you look at the chart the tilt wasn’t suddenly left high and dry, it was relatively gradual so I think my first guess may also be right and the poor little bugger was obviously clinging to the dip float on the way down! It only flat lined at the end when the fermenter had emptied...

Ah ok, so the fermenter leaked and emptied?

Guess whats happening in my fermenter. Red line is sg blue is temp

Did the tilt get caught up on the floating dip or something?

Purging bucket and bottles with Argon

Sorry tubbsy, no further discussion from me.

Purging bucket and bottles with Argon

If you don’t want to keep resurrecting the discussion then simply don’t keep telling me I’m wrong when I respond to other members. If you take a look at the last tread you butted in on all I said was “Most home brewers in the sixties, seventies and in to the eighties only had simple BIAB...

    Chest freezer not getting cold

Fair enough. I thought a freezer would not run at all if the thermostat was stuffed.

Purging bucket and bottles with Argon

Mark, it is fine by me if you CBA to respond but would you also please do me the courtesy of not butting in and telling me I am wrong when I am responding to other members and providing the correct information. Don’t you see that it is pretty rude that you keep butting in whenever BIAB is...

    Chest freezer not getting cold

Was yours running constantly though or not running at all? If it’s a chest freezer converted to a keezer it would presumably be using an STC/ Inkbird or similar external thermostat? If it’s running constantly sounds like the original thermostat if still connected and the STC are allowing it to...

Purging bucket and bottles with Argon

You would think! A couple years ago I visited a friend while he was brewing his first ever beer. He had bought a Robobrew and gone straight in to all grain. He over sparged or topped up the kettle too much and ended up boiling for 2-3 hours I think so I had left before the end but think he had...

Purging bucket and bottles with Argon

I’m hardly hijacking threads or following anyone around the post above is the first time I mentioned and linked it. MHB often misses replies as do I. I sometimes don’t see them for months. For years myself and others have posted evidence that BIAB is one of the oldest mashing methods when the...

Purging bucket and bottles with Argon

Good point Mark, but it should also be mentioned that that Oxygen is not always considered to harm or at least ruin beer if it is packaged in a suitably sized container and/or consumed in a timely manner. Traditional cask ales including IPA (without the NE) only has a shelf life of a few days...

    Wort oxygenation

Pure oxygen certainly improves things but on a simple home brew scale if you don’t have that you can get great results with the old double drop method. Basically you aerate as best you can then aerate again within 24 hours (but usually about 15-16). With double drop in breweries they achieved...

no chill into white plastic fermenter?

That is the answer I want mark. You previously said above that I was wrong my brewing history was a mish mash and insinuated that I couldn’t have been doing BIAB prior to it being invented here on AHB. Not sure why you have brought Pat or into this again? Why exactly would you think it is fair...

    Effects of chlorine in mash

I think I may know but need a little more info. When you say “jump in the pool” did you pool bomb? And when you got out did there did there seem to be more beer in the glass than before?

no chill into white plastic fermenter?

@MHB Mark we are just discussing BIAB in another thread and I was reminded of this discussion. Any chance you could post pics of your fifties HB books showing what brewing systems were used back then? Are you sure they are home brew books or perhaps they are aimed at brewers that where licensed...

    Moving from K&K to AG

Hang on, I wasn’t suggesting or recommending lifting heavy weights. I recommended using a broom handle to lift and support a BIAB bag above a kettle and said I would not consider BIAB suitable for brewing 60L The fact is a lot of people use 50L kegs and fermenters and have to move them around...
