Help - so I accidently got detergent in the pre-boil wort....

You're absolutely right - too many beers before posting :) I used Sodium dodecyl sulphate as a surfactant in the last lot I made up. Many chemical and cleaning supplies companies sell both that and the EDTA. but don't know about price. I got mine from a place that's since closed. Too many cheap...

Help - so I accidently got detergent in the pre-boil wort....

Yep it's a pretty grey science most of us are practicing. Does your homemade PBW not contain a surfactant like EDTA or a bit of nappywash ?

    hop spider or tube ?

You mean like a hop sock? I used one for a long time but when it got discoloured I moved to the hop spider. If anyone needs a hop spider I've got a brand new one that came with my Guten and don't need. Going cheap :)

Help - so I accidently got detergent in the pre-boil wort....

I'm thinking @pnorkle meant dishwashing liquid. It's true most cleaning solutions include 1 or more surfactants to act as a wetting agent and/or emulsifier and also chelators. But the ones used are selected to be easily rinsed away. Most dishwashing or laundry cleaners also have scents and many...

    Mangrove Jacks Ginger Beer pouch.

That's interesting. Xylitol is the only one that tastes like sugar to me (of the one's I've tried). Stevia adds a strange aftertaste - well the bought stuff - the actual plant leaves are quite nice. Luckily I don't "need" to try alternates to sugar but do try and minimize my sugar intake where...

Crown Urn (BIAB) and Keg Ferment Q's

Oh yes bending up would be fine too. I cut 2 of my kegs liquid tubes as I only ever intend using them for fermenting. I can always buy a new dip tube if I change my mind. :)

    hop spider or tube ?

I use a hop spider but agree with @n87 on the hop balls. There are spiders with fine and slightly coarser mesh. I use one with the slightly larger mesh and it seems to work well. Can't remember where I got it from but might have been from one of the forum sponsors Mine cleans up nicely with the...

Crown Urn (BIAB) and Keg Ferment Q's

The sight glass hole, maybe a suitable ss bolt and nut with an o ring or home made silicon ring. The sight glass hole on my old urn HLT is just filled with silicon sealer - works but not exactly elegant. I used this one as I had it and should be safe...

    GUTEN

I was thinking of decoction. I've never done a reiterated mash but you are right that would be better and easier.

    Final Gravity fluctuation

Was the last little bit full of gunk? If so you can get a different reading. Regardless my answer to both questions would be - No

    Liquid Malt Extract

How would you remove the hop bitterness? Theres not much hop flavour/aroma in most cans anyway. If you try it, the "Blonde" beers or lagers would be your best choice I think. I wouldn't boil the cans though as the bitterness would probably get stronger. Just dry hop with hops of your choice...

    GUTEN

Are you running out of space for grain or water? I just scaled up an APA recipe for a 55l batch and was 12Kg which should fit in your malt pipe (I'm assuming the 50l has a deeper malt pipe then the 40l I have had over 10Kg in my 40l) If it's liquid space you are running out of, just use the max...

Coopers Pale Ale Cans @ $8 @ Woolies

No worries, I'll get a couple anyhow and probably use for a quick keg fill. Was just thinking of using for a starter as I've run out of saved 2nd runnings from my all grain brews. Fixing/moving house so not enough time for brewing atm.

How to dispose of spent grains?

I know this is sort of off topic but I have done this before with a mix of spent grain, sawdust (untreated timber of course) and coffee grounds. But always used some inoculated mushroom starter too. I simply put a dampened mix as above in a microwave for 2 mins to sterilize it. obviously in...

Coopers Pale Ale Cans @ $8 @ Woolies

Ok I'm being lazy, my excuse is I'm using a crappy old laptop and my phone as a hotspot as there's no internet here at the new house yet. How do you store it once opened if you are using it for starters etc. ? Just fill sterilized jars and whack in the fridge? Regardless I'll get a couple...

    65 litre RoboBrew Thread

And to answer your question it is possible to get 2 cubes but may be difficult with a very high gravity beer.

Where do you buy your hops now?

Yep I did but thought postage would be a killer - apparently not so bad if their website shipping is correct. Better keep an eye on that for the new year once I've got the house sorted and have time to do more than the odd keg filler.

Where do you buy your hops now?

You buy hops from the UK? Ok question time: No problems with customs? Is this for the freshest hops and not a monetary thing? I'm guessing with the dollar being low the UK# is expensive, although after brexit maybe it's worth bugger all :)

    Nice one! I've only got a 2keg 1 tap fridge that's almost dead :(

Where do you buy your hops now?

I normally buy from Grain and Grape but sometimes I buy from Brewman.com.au as they have hop dealz too. I miss Yob's super cheap deals, I bought sooo many hops, I never managed to finish them all before I had to chuck them in the compost. :) edit: At Brewman click the green dealz banner.
