    Choosing a fermenter.

Looks ok Just check the plastic seams on the inside as a lot of those blue ones are really rough which makes them hard to clean/sanitize. If you're going to the store - pick the best one :)

Oh good point! I didn't even pick up on that. I do it the same way as you @Fro-Daddy

    KegLand Questions and Answers

Looks like they are still selling the Mk3 for gases other than CO2. I assume the PRV is rated differently on those. Still the Mk4 is under $50 so pretty cheap.

@krz I've done over 10Kg in the 40l Guten but yes that sounds like too much water. Any brews with lots of grain, I use as little water as needed to produce a decent consistency to the mash and then add the rest as sparge.. You should be able to do 13 Kg of grain in the larger Guten without too...

    Mangrove Jacks Ginger Beer pouch.

You could always try back sweetening it with Xylitol next time. I'm fairly sure that doesn't affect blood sugar levels and doesn't ferment so no bottle bombs. Just a thought

Nice, cheap and simple. Don't have a pedestal drill but I'm sure I could knock one of those together.

If it was one of the cheap Bunnings mulchers like I have, he took the best bit:) Can't remember the brand and it's at the new house. Used it a few times, always clogs up in seconds. I just use the secateurs now to chop stuff up.

That hood only cost $30 ? made up or did you do it yourself? I don't have welding gear at all.

    Sterilizing

Well there you go. WEAL uses it a lot apparently I never have. Can't find a small quantity at a reasonable price but I will use it as it's widely used in food production. As for strong cleaner vs sanitizer it might be levels of paranoia on my part but sterilizer -nope nothing you buy from the...

    Sterilizing

Sodium Meta isn't really a sanitizer much more than Disan/percarb - They do have sanitizing effects but probably not to the extent of true sanitizers. And if you rinse after - what with? water still at 100C or was boiling but now cooler water (like I do) I'd rather spend ten bucks on some real...

    Sterilizing

Oh geez Disan is more a cleaner than a sterilizer. Go the stellar/Starsan way as soon as you can - or peracetic acid, but Starsan clones are cheap and easily available. And if it's a lactic infection it's not likely to kill you if you drink it :)

Coopers pale ale with coopers euro lager yeast.

Never done that! I've added ale yeast to a lager but not the other way. Best temp for that yeast is about 12C but to keep some esters to make it a pale ale then maybe 15C is a good compromise. You have 2 choices, try and make it into a pale as per above or lager the hell out of it! Low and slow...

If their delivery to Brissie is expensive ask if pick up is available or courier to Melb subs. I could do the split and post so long as it doesn't happen mid Dec to new year - might be a tad cheaper for everyone. Just a thought. Oh. was already aware the pricing was ex GST so no issue for me

Buy some seedlings for their school garden or something to pay them back at least. A couple of punnets of seedlings for a working urn is a sweet deal and you'll feel like you've done the right thing :)

    Sterilizing

Now that would be more like it! I was quoted $52 for the 1l and $56 for the 5l.

    Sterilizing

If only the local homebrew shops sold it in small quantities like a 500ml bottle :) Most suppliers want to sell 25litres a few have 5l bottles too One I found has 1l bottles that cost as much as 5l

AHB Articles: Fermenting Directly in the No-chill Cube

Also try your local Chinese restaurants some of them buy soy sauce in 25l cubes and might let you have some cheap/free. Don't forget to say Xièxiè or if they are from Shanghai say Yá yà! and they'll be happy to give you more next time you visit. :) I used to get mine that way but now they buy...

AHB Articles: Fermenting Directly in the No-chill Cube

Yep the big lid would be better of fermenting, but do check those seams and pick the cleanest one on the shelf as some are really bad which would make cleaning/sanitizing a PITA
