    Designing a Kilkenny Clone Extract

Comment on your recipe. Seems a lot of Roast Barley, could be because you have 591 EBC where as I use 1300 EBC. I'd check your value. cheers

    Boddies Best

Only had Boddingtons once probably in the 60's, thought it was terrible. Brewed using the prisoners socks from Strangeways prison. Must have been a bad pint.

    Crown concealed element users

No it has a hexagonal base similar to the one in Bribie G's Using a 40L electric urn thread but the hexagonal part is coated with plastic or something, so it does not scratch and withstands the heat.

    Crown concealed element users

I use a paint stirrer to clean the element between mash out and start of boil. Over 200 brews, 70 min boils and average 3.5 litres/hour evaporation. No cut outs.

    Biab Beer Designer Spreadsheet

Hi elvey Welcome to the forum. That's what I used for the hop calculations plus a time factor for No Chill. Feel free to use what bits you want, that's why it is not protected. Cheers Ian

    Kit And Extract Beer Spreadsheet

There is very little data for boiling hops with small volumes hence the HCF. I would not use it with an 8 litre boil volume but suggest you try and increase your boil volume to 10 litres which can easily be done in say a BigW 19 litre pot.

    Low effort bottle sanitation technique

Gee I just rinse my bottles with water when they are emptied then again before filling. Use a bit of bleach when they get dirty.

    Biab Beer Designer Spreadsheet

Just hit the "Save Recipe" button on the Main worksheet and it should save to the Recipes worksheet. If you have added stuff to the Inventory worksheet and hit the "Make Recipe" button it should put the info on the Brews worksheet. Note I think that the macros only work with Excel, not with...

    Biab Beer Designer Spreadsheet

Just be aware that selecting Crown urn includes a factor for the volume of the raised concealed element and this is probably different for the Robobrew.

    Yeast starter funnel

I get around the problem by taking wort from my brew and using that for the yeast starter for the next brew. Fortunately most of my brews are 1.040 -1.050 and only occasionally >50 EBU.

Boil volume vs hop utilisation. Am I the only one confused?

I would not use the HCF function, it was put there because some extract brewers were only boiling 2-3 litres. Having said that I would try and increase your boil volume to 10 litres. I got most of the info for the spreadsheet for hops from here http://realbeer.com/hops/FAQ.html Sorry not...

    Saving a Yeast Starter?

Would not want to be using concentrated sulphuric acid at home.

    Saving a Yeast Starter?

I do this all the time without any problems. I use wort from my previous brew for my starter (generally brew 1.040 -1.045 type beers). I use a fifth of a smack pack per starter and put 500ml of wort and yeast on stir-plate for 24 hours then add 1000ml of wort and stir for a further 48 hours. I...

    500 years of 'Reinheitsgebot' rules

This weekend marks 500 years since the Duke of Bavaria introduced the "Reinheitsgebot" or purity law - strict rules controlling what can go into beer. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36110288 Though I could not go and live there as you are limited to 200 litres of homebrew per year.

    Biab Beer Designer Spreadsheet

The spreadsheet uses MS Word in the background to copy the information on the Brewday worksheet onto the Brews worksheet as a comment, just in case you are wondering why you need MS Word. It was the only way I could find of doing it.
