Help with STC 1000 controller wiring help

It does not matter, both are correct. When the temp is low and heat is required the relay between 5 and 6 closes and completes the circuit. Similarly with 7 and 8 when cooling is required again the relay closes and completes the circuit.

Moving to NW Tas from Melbourne

Good to see there will be another brewer in the NW. I now buy my base malt in Launceston as we have not had a bulk buy in a number of years. I get some of my specialities there also otherwise use Craftbrewer. Hops I buy in kilo lots from a mainland supplier (who does not sell to individuals).

    Precipitous learning curve...

Your water losses come from three main areas. Water absorbed by the grain, water lost during the boil and water lost due to trub etc(what you leave in the pot). The grain will absorb about 0.6 litres per kilo of grain depending how hard you squeeze the bag. Boil off is normally 10 -15% of volume...

    Creating a 'Simple' Mid Strength

Hi Taswoods Looks as though you have already taken the first step, going from bottles to kegs which reduces the alcohol content when using CO2 for carbonation. Given you have been brewing for 3 years you should have the processes under control. As other have said ditch the dextrose, does...

    Kit And Extract Beer Spreadsheet

Right I am with you now. Yours appear quite a bit darker than the ones I have which are a light-mid blue. Anyway to change the colours of the spin bars you need select a spin bar then go into the Developer (you may need to add this), then select Design Mode, a list of properties for the spin bar...

    Kit And Extract Beer Spreadsheet

Hi Buzzliteyear THe colour is determined from the ingredients, given the ingredients you listed you will finish with a pale beer, low EBC. You could make it darker by adding say some brown sugar or dark malt. Alternatively you could steep some of the grains listed on the GRAINS worksheet...

    Kit And Extract Beer Spreadsheet

Hi Buzzliteyear welcome to the forum. It could be a simple matter of all components not disolved or mixed properly or your volume is not measured accurately. I would not worry about it off one brew, do a few more and if the problem still exists then investigate. There is a set amount of sugars...

    Shearwater Tas water profile

Hi. I have a similar water analysis here. Basically brew ESB's and Pale Ales. I BIAB and use 5g CaCl2, 4g CaSO4 and 3g MgSO4 per 23 litre batch. Download a copy of the EZ Water Calculator spreadsheet to help with the salt additions. Agree with manticle any soapiness is likely to be another cause.

    Kit And Extract Beer Spreadsheet

Yes with a smaller volume you get less IBU's. The HCF was put in because a fair percentage of K & E brewers boil small volumes, it is a different calculation from Tinseth and was included to try and give these brewers a better estimation of their IBU's. What we recommend is you use a boiling...

    Kit And Extract Beer Spreadsheet

When not using the HCF the Spreadsheet uses the Tinseth caculation for IBU's which is the standard way of calculating bitterness. Suggest you look into it further to find why the differences occur.

    Kit And Extract Beer Spreadsheet

Are you using the HCF in which case they will be quite different. If not then should be similar.

    Refractometer

I use one of these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RHB-18ATC-refractometer-0-18-for-beverage-Brix-cutting-grinding-fluids-testing-/182275684178?_trksid=p2385738.m2548.l4275 as I do not brew strong beers. Much easier to read than the 32Brix model. Also use a calculation for fermented samples plus...

The latest version I unloaded is 4.1 which can be found in the first post of this thread. I think someone else may have uploaded 4.2 which from memory (not good) may have contained extra Kits/BE/hops. cheers Ian
