    Session IPA

Definitely on my to do list as summer approaches.. I'm thinking something along the lines of: 50% Pils 35% Vienna 15% Flaked barley Mash higher and use something like Wyeast 1450 or 1272, or mash lower and use something like 1332 or 1968? FWH and probably just a whirlpool and dry hop...

Remedy for lack of hop flavour in Dr Smurtos GA

All good points above, dry hopping at ferment temps before crashing, keg hopping, a little CaSO4 in the mash and boil will all help to accentuate hops. As well as getting hops stored properly in the first place. Brewman (no affiliation) sells LupilN2 in different hop varieties (Simcoe, Mosaic...

    Mash Tun issues

I hear floating a sheet of al foil on the surface of the wort/mash also helps reduce heat loss

Thanks mate that's good to know, I had read something similar on the web somewhere with regards to still using some hops (either pellet or flowers) in conjunction with resin or lupulin extract for just that reason. Always good to get some first hand experience in too!

I just plugged in 40.2%AA, and used 20 min steep as the time frame/ temp.. I ended up just doing it (adding 1mL that is) and it smelt incredible, if the Citra and Simcoe LupiLN2 is anything to go by I can't wait to dry hop this with some Cascade LN2 as well!

I figure this might be the best place to ask, anyone have any experience adding the resin to a cube? I've just whirlpool'd so will be filling a cube in ~ 20mins... Thinking of adding 1mL Cascade resin for ~15 ibu (according to beersmith) instead of pellets. (Will get some cascade lupiN2 for the...

    Any Other Hobbies?

I seem to share a few same hobbies as some other members, I usually have a few on the go at any given time and work on wherever my motivation is at the time. -Roasting coffee (built a convection oven type roaster, and currently have five coffee plants, one that has beans to harvest this year...

    Any Other Hobbies?

Before the kids came along I had a lot more time to pursue mycology, it is a great hobby! - I am planning on culturing some oysters and letting the boys be part of the process (at least the fruiting part). Practising sterile technique is next to impossible at the moment unless it's late at...

    Brew ideas

How old is the galaxy malt? Is it cracked? Add the brew enhancer to ~ 4L boiling water, bring to boil, add 15g POR + 15g Cacade and boil for further 10 mins. Dry hop if you want a bit of aroma, depends what sort of beer you want to make though.

    Hunter New England Brewers club?

Cheers mate, yeah the brew shop is still going, and Anthony is still there.. I had a bit of a chat to him when I first got here and he said that the same sort of thing, there are a few brewers around. I've only really been in there once since (to get some last minute dry yeast) as I do 99% of my...

    Hunter New England Brewers club?

I work in Tamworth during the week (so for all intents and purposes I live here), is there a brew club active in the area? The beer scene seems to be growing slowly with the Pig and Welders Dog particularly offering some decent beers, and New England Brewing company just up the road a bit.

Novice after some tips about the KK Series 4 Kegerator

For ~$15 you can pick up a box of Coopers PET (15 x 740mL) bottles and for $4 a bag of carbonation drops (both from Big W), if it's only a couple litres per batch you'd only have to bottle a few per batch. Benefit being if for some reason fermentation hadn't completed in 14 days (with a healthy...

Novice after some tips about the KK Series 4 Kegerator

That may be the primary reason for U-brew-It advocating for refrigerated storage, but maybe not. Cold storage of finished beer is desirable for flavour stability by slowing down chemical reactions responsible for staling/ muting of flavours. Most of the decent breweries will store their...
