    First BIAB recipe

Thanks guys. I'm trying to work out strike water. I filled up my urn with 35 litres of water, brought it to the boil and then set my timer to see how much evaporated in an hour, which was ~3l. Say 3.5 to be safe. So if I'm looking at a 23l batch size with a 5kg grain bill , I add 3 litres to...

    First BIAB recipe

I was thinking saaz as an alternative with roughly double the quantities as it seems far less bitter.

    First BIAB recipe

Hi all I'm thinking about doing my first BIAB and the idea of doing a Vienna SMASH lager sounds good. Does this sound about right? Grain - 100% Vienna (5kg) Hops: Perle - 60m 30g Perle - 15m 15g Perle - 5m 15g No chill - looking for ~22l batch size. Got my urn boiling away at the moment to...

G'day - help me take my brewing to the next level!

I've just started out too, using the G3 fermenter King. Pressure fermenting is the best. I've just been using FWKs so far and getting excellent results. Check out Dr Hans YouTube videos, and Geoff Heath Homebrew. I found they helped a lot to understand the concepts and some tricks with...

    Infection Photo Thread

Thanks mate. It's kegged at 18psi. Stuff bottling! It's mellowed a little since yesterday. I'm guessing you're right, the yeast might have cleaned up a bit. Anyway, time for the next one - oatmeal stout.

    Infection Photo Thread

Thanks all. I chilled it down a bit today and transferred to a keg. Most of the krausen dropped. Tastes ok, a tad more bitter/astringent than I thought but lots of banana.

    Infection Photo Thread

I've just finished fermenting a bavarian wheat beer in the fermenter king. OG 1.045 FG 1.007 (seems a bit low) Fermentation should have finished, but there's still krausen (hopefully) on top. Is this ok, or possibly an infection?

    Bottle washing idea

Just leave them soaking in a bucket of starsan until you need to bottle?

Your experience with PET Pressure Fermenters - Open Discussion - feedback invited

I have the G3 fermenter King. Just did my first brew and it turned out great, and dispensing from the fermenter is awesome. Looking forward to doing many more brews in it. Only complaint is, when I was doing a closed transfer tonight to my keg, the floating dip tube was half in/half out of the...

Soga 48l electric urn for BIAB

Thanks mate. Probably only going to be doing 23l batches (end volume) to start with, but thought the bigger pot might come in handy later if I decide to upsize.

Soga 48l electric urn for BIAB

Well, it's ordered now so I'll see how I go. I plan on insulating it. The Crown is 2.4kw so not a huge difference.

Soga 48l electric urn for BIAB

Turns out that photo relates to a different product so no false bottom. Anyway, I'll buy it and see how I go.

Soga 48l electric urn for BIAB

Just posting this as it might be helpful to others. I've emailed Soga to ask about what looks like a 'false bottom' in their urn and whether it's removable for cleaning. Could work ok for BIAB if it is.

Soga 48l electric urn for BIAB

Looks like the Crown seconds are still around the $300 mark, so I'll be the Soga guinea pig I think.

Thanks mate, that's not a bad idea.

Soga 48l electric urn for BIAB

I've been eyeing off this as a BIAB vessel. I know people use the Soga kettles on gas, but has anyone used this urn? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/heyhey-soga-48l-stainless-steel-urn-commercial-water-boiler-2200w-urn844/ Only asking as I noticed the disclaimer: Please note: This appliance is...

    Fermenting Under Pressure

Probably a couple more weeks depending how long it takes my keg to arrive. Just want to make sure I've got the procedure right in terms of depressurisation and repressurisation
