brand new 48L urn for $120 - too good to be true (or good)?

Might have been me, 38l advertised (ebay), but the measurements are very generous. The one i bought was a good 6L smaller, got $20 partial refund. Year on, small rust pitting, use as my HLT and herms heater. (and was 2400w) Heats up pretty fast.

AUSTRALIAN rocker Jon English has died.

Sad loss, my first job was part time at Grace Bros in Hornsby, I sold him a cot for one of his kids. Really genuinely nice guy!

2016 NSW Mid Year Case Swap

OK latest count looks pretty much like last time. Any objections to June 11th? Midday. Should be early enough that Barls doesn't need to "rush off" too quickly. Same as last time: you'll need a couple of crates put your number on the cap bottles or appropriate PET in the 750ml vicinity I'm...

    How do you secondary?

Airlocks are great for letting you know when things have started, but can be really misleading in terms of when things have finished! And lagers ....%$#@*&!!! I think Bribies a glad wrapper, its a cult thing, you have to be invited and there's a handshake. :-)

2016 NSW Mid Year Case Swap

Yep sounds like the plan, been crazy at work, I'll try and sort out some details over the weekend. One option might be a double swap!??? I.e. 2 bottles of different beers? thoughts? That's two half kegs for the "coasties" (had to do it) ...... or do i hear a group buy on 9L kegs....

    Hitting the wall

And shaking up the wort?? Adding in some oxygen, Yobs got a point, the sprinkle method is the least effective of all the choices .... and ditto, has anyone else tried the beer and not liked it? Maybe the styles not really your cup of steeped hops. We've all done those i reckon!

    Lesson Learned

Commiserations..... you'll be finding spots of mould for months .... I had a lager I thought was done, totally lagered and had sitting in a cube ready to rack the next day, swelled up like a balloon over a very warm Sydney night, rolled off the bench ...... mess was biblical ...... New brewing...

    Hitting the wall

Err... you're in Brissie .... it's summer and it's warm, the biggest single impact above sanitation and you're probably doing that ok is TEMPERATURE. I totally concur with the Fresh wort kit, but if your temps are too high you get those flavours that my mates associate with home brew. Lots of...

    Optimum boil and options

I just installed a couple of 5 star in a 70L craft brewer pot. One 2400W and one 3600w. Use both for getting to the boil and the 3600 for maintaining the rage. I find that the 2400 in that pot is a bit underwhelming. May have something to do with the surface area, your 50l is smaller. Can...

    drilling stone for a font

Damn fine advice, if you really have to do it yourself and you have access to a drill press, that's a better option than any hand tool. I'll have a crack and have had a crack at most things, but drilling stone takes **** loads of patience, brittle stone is really prone to vibration cracks...

    Good Morning To You All

For an excellent extra resource either hit John Palmer's website or buy his book ..... How To Brew. http://www.howtobrew.com/ I just updated my copy for around off Mightyape and cost me $28! That plus the guru's on this site will take you far ....... and cost you a bloody fortune once you...

    Good Morning To You All

Tim, If you're brewing for "value" and simplicity, definitely go Coopers kit and as Grott says ... temp makes a big difference.! With a few more $, pick up a better yeast or culture from some Pale Ale stubs, and chuck a hop teabag in for extra aroma and flavour (heaps of info here, search)...

    Help understand Yeast harvest

I get a lot. Technically you should wash the trub and do the first settle etc to remove junk. If you're not real fussy and you have another brew ready to go of a similar style it's not unheard of just pitch the whole slurry into the new wort ...... otherwise just clean it up the same way. (I...

    Help understand Yeast harvest

Thin line on top is yeast I typically use the yeast after fermentation or farm fresh yeast and split it up rather than top collect. More chance of infection with the later, but perfectly acceptable as long as you're careful. What you'd need to do from here is arm yourself with more cooled...

I used dud yeast- is it too late to salvage?

2 packs of Nottingham = small tactical nuke ...I love it! Doubt that you would have killed it with an ice brick, won't actually freeze it so no cellular disruption, and its from West Yorkshire, sitting on an ice brick should have been like a week in Tahiti!

    Sparkies/Electronics people

Got some just like it off ebay after playing with my mates bunnings ones. He paid about $40, work tool as hes an electronics tech. Mine were about 10. Not quite as good, but pretty damn close. Same adjustable tension etc. Wish I'd known they existed a lot sooner!
