QldKev's New Biab With Internal Rims

By the sounds of when you stir the wort you are ending up channeling, hence the wort not really clarifying after that point. The crush looks good. The slots and holes look like there is plenty. When you say the mash is sticking, it the inner pot filling up and overflowing?

Heat belts , heat pads or other sources -what's best

I def would not use a normal beer fermenter heat belt without the fermenter to suck the heat away. I think it was Ross that posted a pic of one that had caught on fire.

Heat belts , heat pads or other sources -what's best

Yep just off the top rack. The reason I prefer the reptile cord over the brew heat belt, is the reptile cord does not get that warm to touch. Mine is 7m long, so the heat is spread over a large area. It gets threaded from top to bottom a few times. The heat could not cause a fire, it would...

    FS Brisbane: Whirlpool Fridge

It will be either the defrost timer ($20 to $30), defrost thermostat ($15) or the defrost element (rare, up to $60). Anyone got a test meter and got an idea about electrical stuff I could help step you through the repair. No guarantees, I'm not a fridge mechanic, and have no affiliation to the...

Heat belts , heat pads or other sources -what's best

I agree about heating ambient, much more gentle a manner of heat with no hot spots on the fermenter. I think most of the ways are great. I went the reptile heat cord as it's long and makes for a more uniform heating. Here's the thread with links to the one i got.

    co2 extinguisher refill?

There was a thread on here a few years back about food grade CO2 vs normal CO2. The reported only difference is they wipe the connection of the food grade bottle before filling it from the same tank.

    dodo ADSL2+ unlimited

I had Dodo many years back, back in the dial-up days. Connections were so slow I dropped them within 2 months. I more recently did the iiNet thing (last ISP prior to my current). Was happy initially. They told me ADSL 1 was the best speed I could get, and I had to pay an extra $10 for the...

    Ghetto Grain Mill

I've run my mill at 0.9mm since I started with BIAB, then 3V and also my 1V. Crush as fine as you can without getting a stuck mash.

    Grain Mills and Motors

Legally I think an electrician should do the job. I'd speak with Truman, he knows a lot of stuff in this area.

    Grain Mills and Motors

Excellent write up. With the lack of being able to start up when the hopper is full, why not just add in a start capacitor. You can find them on old washing machines, air cons, etc. They are pretty easy to wire in.

false bottum ideas for my 80litre pot

This is my setup in a 100L mash tun. Basically a 50L keg bottom, with cuts using a 1.0mm angle grinder cut off wheel. No stuck mashes and 85% pre-boil eff. I also use it for other hobbies and it gets a pounding with a drill paint mixer. I love it.

    Grain Mills and Motors

AC power oscillates therefore power actually comes in pulses, whereas DC is a constant supply; hence better for torque. I haven't used that motor or seen one used, so I cant comment on real world usage. I do like the design that is seems a plug and play setup It's spec'd at 240v 1amp which is...

    Hello to all here

All yeasts have a desired fermenting temperature range. Water baths can help get the ferment temp down, also draping a wet towel over the fermetner and facing a fan at it can help. But I'm thinking up your way it will be impossible to hit the optimum temps this time of year. Down here in Bundy...

mash master mini for the win.....probably

It's a mill that will keep a homebrewer satisfied for many years to come. 2 inch rollers and 3 roller setups are great, but there is not a huge amount in it for a homebrewer. IMHO put the extra $ into a decent motor setup that can maintain a constant speed. For the record I use a mm2 and...
