Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

The 10L/12m is the overkill for 2400w. Using a stainless coil, which stainless is not as good of a conductor as copper, the hermit only uses ~3m in ~2.5L for 3600w (max know). The idea is to find the amount of heat energy (watts) you need for your volume of mash, and then build a coil/water...

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

The calc is based on the energy required to heat water. It is not dependent on any specific system. It will work for any system. I plugged in 90L for the figures I quoted, as you mentioned it was Moad's mash size. Then I just used 10 degrees as the amount of temp change and divided the time...

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

I run a 112L (final vol) batch on my 3V. It's a 82L mash tun and 140L kettle (pre boil is very full). I run a March 809 and it flows enough for me. The pumps I brew with at work flow about the same as a March 809, and as you can imagine the brewery is a lot bigger than our systems. You need...

    Hitting really low gravities!

This would be my guess. I think with the BigW pot insert either recirc or a decent sized sparge is needed.

    Xxxx Bitter

I ended up with Perle as it was at the font of the hop storage. I'm thinking a straight cluster would had been nice. I need to drink more so I can experiment more often :P

    Xxxx Bitter

More I think about it, it is as you said, a Vienna. I had a delay starting it, it's starting to come to the boil now. Now I'm thinking of pushing the IBU a few more points and waving some late hal hops over it. Maybe 30IBU and 10g Hal at 20mins? XXXX Bitter Vienna, will give it a go

    Fermenting down to business.

From your Q's Diacetyl rest ? Is it worth doing and how many actually do it. Secondary fermentation? Never done it who does and for what benefit. Cold crash? Same deal. Who does and what benefit. Average time of primary fermentation? For all intense purposes when your fg reaches its lowest...

    Dry hopper for corny keg

If you want the ultimate fresh hop experience check out a hop randall. Some guys have used the Blichman hop rocket fr it. Otherwise a simple oversized swiss voile bag full of hops in the keg will get you into a decent hoppy place. Use fresh flowers if you can find them :)

    Best VPN

Thanks for the ideas, I think I will go with https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/. Just waiting for the son to check some things out if he will be happy with it.

    Best VPN

What's VPNs are people using, chasing one for Netflix US and other bits. It must allow full VPN access via a PS3. edit. From the Netflix thread I see https://www.unblock-us.com/ will do the IP masking to look like a US user, but chasing a full VPN service.

Set it and forget it method?

It's easier to just get decent disconnects etc, set to your pouring pressure 10-14psi, and forget it for a week. Then you have an excellent beer every every time with no need for extra pressure tanks etc.

QldKev's New Biab With Internal Rims

Yep, there is a detailed procedure on here but basically mash in, sit for a minute or so with little to no recirc, increase the flow to a slow speed, sit for a couple of mins, keep increasing the flow, waiting at each step as you go, until you are happy with the speed. You will find once you...

I don't think where the pickup is located would matter. Have you tried setting the grain bed before increasing the flow?
