COUNTERFEIT SSR WARNING - CHECK YOUR GEAR!

Brewing the other weekend at a mates (not on my system) and noticed a burning smell. All 4 Fotek SSRs are melted. They all have the 45 corner. We noticed the 2 non Fotek SSRs are the only good ones in there. Who is a decent supplier for SSRs in Australia?

Ditching the 4V HLT & HERMS and going 2V RIMS heating questions

If you are going to build a trolley for the 2V consider 2 trolleys, that are equal. Then while one of the vessels is at the boil, you can wheel the mash tun one out for cleaning. Best idea we did on my mates setup.

Ditching the 4V HLT & HERMS and going 2V RIMS heating questions

Do you really need a hot water sparge on a home brewer scale? On my 1V and my mates 2V we both now cold water sparge. I only hot water sparge on my 3V (aka 4V with HERMS) as it helps the kettle get to the boil faster as it has a smaller watts per liter ratio. On my 1V I called it a "hose sparge™"

    Classic AHB threads

I was not happy with the taste of them, but I threw out all of mine after seeing an oil slick on top of the kettle when brewing with them. Never seem the oil slick with normal hops prior or after. Several kg worth gone, and many cubes or wort dumped.

    Best VPN

Son was not too decisive about which one, so still haven't arranged anything yet. Biggest down fall is when you route via a US server your latency increases, and the son is a gamer.

I want a Brewie! Any Tax Deduction Experts On Here?

I may write a review on the latest commodore so I can buy one as a tax write off. I *think* you would need a business that is writing the blogs, or a practical vested interest in the business. mmm I own share in Bunnings, now I can write off any product I can buy from there?

The best value fresh wort kits?

The ones I brew at work at the best :) But they are the same prices as above, but do include the yeast and any dry hop additions for the $

    Licorice, root or powder?

I used some from work. As MHB said watch out it stands out super strong. I only used about 8ml and it def stood out in a milk stout.

Malt pipe issues with stuck mash

Also try setting the mash bed before trying to open up the flow. It makes a huge difference.

Malt pipe issues with stuck mash

I'd cut some slots in the base. Imho they work heaps better than round holes. Depending on the mill i don't think 0.9mm is too small. It is what I use both at home and also at work

Whats The Biggest Biab Batch Possible?

I did a couple of 112l batches in the 140l pot before finishing my 3v. Ekul enjoyed the big sized biab brewday and started it. He is still doing it to date.

Can I ferment Lager at a higher temp?

I'd stick with S-189, W34/70, California lager or Mangrove Jacks Workhorse.

1BBL (120L) HERMS - anyone around this size

I'm only using the HERMIT coil, not the controller. But any decent pid should keep it pretty tight. The controller I'm using is the one in this thread. The calc is good, I've also got a calculator that does the maths for you on my website qldkev.net

1BBL (120L) HERMS - anyone around this size

I'm running a 100l mash tun for a 112l final vol brew. With a hermit coil and just a 1800w kettle element best i can get is 0.3c per min ramp. With an extra 2400w i can get 1c per min.

    Drip tray hygiene

I put a cleaning cloth over the tray to catch the few drops. Once a week or when people are coming over throw the cloth in the wash. Once they leave just rinse the tray and throw a fresh cloth on it.
