    KegLand Questions and Answers

Hey Kegland, When are you going to get some company that can implement a proper web site. Your new one is just hopeless and most unprofessional. Just try and buy an essential item for brewing beer. YEAST. Go -> ingredients -> liquid home brew yeast. You only get NINE 9 products that you can only...

US05 yeast - slight after taste and dry

Safale wheat beer yeast is WB-06, do not use this for your Pacific Ale. WB-06 throws a strong banana and clove aroma, good for weizen beers but inappropriate for many ales, keep it for wheats, IMO.

US05 yeast - slight after taste and dry

OK, I think I get it. US-05 does not really make dry beers, at lower temps is is neutral. It does take a long time to settle, you really need to cold crash for at least 3 days at .5C (gelatin helps a lot if added below 2C) if you want clear, beer. If you prefer the "Chardonnay" style, eg, a bit...

US05 yeast - slight after taste and dry

Please if you can let us know what you mean by Dry. IMO a dry beer is one that is more fully attenuated, ie. less remaining sugars and depending on OG usually higher ABV.

US05 yeast - slight after taste and dry

I agree with all above, US-05 is a neutral flavour yeast at lower temps. I know the specs say up tp 23C but really 18C is ideal. The start of this thread started with trustyrusty asking why his Pacific ale Morgans Kit made using US-05 was dry and some unexpected flavour. He later states he...

US05 yeast - slight after taste and dry

Do Don't use the Kit yeast, buy Morgans, US-05, or BRY-97 from your supplier and make sure it comes out of the fridge. Kit yeast kept warm for many months may be below par.

US05 yeast - slight after taste and dry

I Think I have found your problem. US-05 seems to be very touchy regarding temperature. 18C seems ideal. I have made a few of the Morgans Pacific Ale brews some years ago and with US-05, 18C for pitch and ferment for 7 days, slow ramp to 22C over next 7 days then cold crash. US05 needs a few...

US05 yeast - slight after taste and dry

What temperature did you pitch? What temperature did you ferment?

Very close to my observations, I have not done the calculations but a Kolsh still in the fermenter started slow ramp over 24 days from 17C to 2C. At 17C pressure was 12PSI, today at 2C it is as 7PSI. A sample shows considerable carbonation but it will need more.

That is as long as you are cooling the beer to about 2C. If you’re warm conditioning then it’s different.

AS your beer is already partially carbonated, try 40PSI and shake the keg for a few minutes. Reduce to 30PSI and leave for about 5 hours. Reduce to serving pressure and an hour or so, pour a beer. If still not enough carb, raise pressure to 30PSI for a few more hours. You will soon get the hang...

I have 3 FZs and after 40+ brews in these, no problems. Please advise what is the V2? No mention of a V2 on their web site.

    Spunding Valve

In my own experience with the tube all the way to the bottom is you get much more foam as the co2 bubbles through any liquid that may be collected. I agree there is no reason to leave the bottle/spunding gear attached during cold crash but I often do. Mostly with lagers, the temp controller is...

D IMO the best way is gas out from fermenter to collection vessel, then to pressure gauge and spunding valve. That way no crud can enter either. May brewers start ferment at little or no pressure and then turn pressure up when fermentation is clearly active. It is possible to miss the time of...

T Tube does not need to go to the bottom of the bottle, a short 30mm tube will suffice, if the tube goes to the bottom then when fermentation is finished it is possible the contents of the bottle will be sucked back into the fermenter, when cold crashing it will be sucked back in. IMO just use a...

Customer misuse of a product is not a reason why others should not buy or not buy a product.. They are similar, they are fermenting vessels. READ my post. If you are that STUPID that you close the butterfly valve on a "FERMERTAURISIS , FERMZILLA or any similar device, then if fermentation is not...

Well???!!. you ignited the BS KK KL thing again, just look at the posts below, not your fault. I use 2 FZ 55L + 1 FZ 27L + fermentausirs. The FZ units work very well so long as you are not completely stupid like others who have posted pictures of exploding collection jars because they closed the...
