    Ale fermentation time

I almost can't believe I'm asking this question after brewing for so many years now, but I'm encountering a somewhat strange phenomenon I started using Mangrove Jacks M44 American pale ale yeast which I like for it's clean taste, but my question is: I've been fermenting these standard 1.044 odd...

Maris otter golden promise pale ale?

Yes I'm actually finding I like the GP better over my previous favourite, MO. The Maris can be a little too toasty when combined with other ingredient stars like Galaxy for instance but then again, tailor your brews and use malts accordingly

Country Trading Store All Grain Kits

I started out with these kits. They were an easy way to get into all grain and not bad drops. Only reason I stopped is because both the price and freight just kept going up and up. It would literally climb daily. At first I was paying around $32 for a hefe and now it's something like $55-$60...

Ever had a beer you thought was infected but turned out great?

Tasting @ 11 days in bottle, wacky taste mellowing but still there. It's the galaxy. Just so damn strong that stuff and I'm not a real fan to begin with so just not my cup of tea. So much so it tastes like an almost ruined batch (laughs) It's a pitty I still have almost half a kg left over...

What's your favorite pale ale recipe?

I do think there's something to using 2x packets of yeast, even in lower og beers. Upon trying to replicate my incredibly amazing pale a few months ago (I have meticulous records) it's always a bit dissapointing.. glad you've bought up the 2x packs. It's the only thing I did diffently because...

Ever had a beer you thought was infected but turned out great?

Just having another at just 1 week in the bottle and it's still there but I'm thinking it may actually be the galaxy hops with Maris Otter and crystal that just doesn't sit right. It's an extreme combination of malt and hops The last tipper I started this thread with was all galaxy while this...

Ag Recipes Based On Barrett Burston Ale Malt

Sure is. Love finding intetesting things like that in bags. You wouldn't read about it, but I bit down on what I can only assume was a buckshot from a shotgun shell in my first bag of TFFMMO. Nearly chipped my tooth. What are the odds of it coming out of the ground, being pacjaged in my bag and...

Ag Recipes Based On Barrett Burston Ale Malt

It's a personal thing for me because I actually found a really small intricate shell in a bag and that's what I get when I smell a brew made with MO now

Ag Recipes Based On Barrett Burston Ale Malt

BB ale, Maris Otter and Golden Promise really aren't that similar. BB is caramel to my palate. MO is nutty and has a hint of what I call 'sea shell' and GP is just deliciously bready and lighter than both

Ever had a beer you thought was infected but turned out great?

I have a new pale just 3 days young but conditioning in the current heat which is now showing signs in taste, aroma and slick mouthfeel of diacetly or something similar that reminds me of the original thread here.. This time it wasn't present at bottling so really hoping it's just diacetly from...

What's your favorite pale ale recipe?

I'm wondering what the 2% wheat would really do? If anything. Seems too low to achieve even head retention and crystal should do that

    Mash temp body difference

Aaaah, yes! This makes good sense. Interesting to hear that about the big brewers (C.U.B) I've been lowering my abv as of late so I can basically drink more and not get so toasted. They have been a little lacklustre compared to the completely A1 pales I used to make around 5.5%. I'm going to...

    Mash temp body difference

Hi all Just wondering, what is the actual taste difference between the same beer brewed with a light body, and full body and which applications would one aim for full body? I can imagine the light would be slightly more watery(?)

What's your favorite pale ale recipe?

    Mash thermometer help

Just did a little more testing It seems to be accurate to my digital thermo if I submerse just short of the temp being read like others have stated. Will do this from now on Wether or not the digi is accurate is anybody's guess but I've been hitting predicted fg for a long time so seems good...

    Mash thermometer help

Sounds like it would probably be better for me to have a partial immersion type.

    Mash thermometer help

Thanks Mark! You'll laugh, but I was looking at the 'Total Imm' print wondering what "total 1mm" meant (ha) Thanks for the explanation, will check your link now

    Mash thermometer help

It reads about 1-2 degrees different. And even then, The glass thermo can go from say, 60 to 56 if I put more or less into the liquid. Just the 1cm red tip seems accurate, 4 odd cms drops 4 degrees, 8cm in goes back up to where it was with the 1cm submerged so I take it it's either of those two...
