    Brewfather and water chemistry

Great information MHB thank you for sharing. I'll have to give acidulated malt ago next Brew. Here I have been using phosphoric thinking it was the preferred acid. Cheers

    Brewfather and water chemistry

Acidulated malt has lactic acid. I think consensus would be to use phosphoric as you find some people will say they can taste lactic acid when it needs to be added in significant quantities. I am still getting a handle on the right pH myself. I generally am happy in the middle at 5.4. It's...

    Brewfather and water chemistry

Darren, In your recipe scroll to the water section and hit the calc button on the right. Then select your target water profile and hit the auto button. Once you hit the auto button the app will guide you on the salts/acids to add to your mash, sparge, or both.

    Brewing books

Another vote for How to Brew. Beyond that check out the rest of the range offered by Brewers Publications. Have also heard Complete Joy of Home Brewing by Charlie Papazian and it's follow up are great books. Have not read all of these but Charlie P and Brewers Publications are well respected...

Good brewing blogs / websites etc?

If you don't mind reading articles about US breweries craftbeer.com is good. You could also look into getting a digital subscription to BYO which gives you access to years of archives that should keep you reading for a while. Cheers

    KegLand Questions and Answers

Summary from brulosphy... "Despite being produced using somewhat similar methods, the results of this xBmt suggest Melanoidin malt is different than Honey malt, at least based off the fact a significant portion of participants were able to reliably distinguish them from each other. While they...

    Water problem solved

If you're brewing kit and kilo boil all your water and let it cool to pitching temps. Also if you're using any dry fermentables (dextrose, malt extract, boosters etc) then these should be boiled as well. Liquid extracts are presumably sterile due to the process in which they are made and...

    Sterilizing

No need to over think this process. Use sodium percarbonate, oxy per, oxy clean, PBW etc to clean your equipment. Don't bother with the diluted stuff from the supermarkets. You're not saving any money after they cut it with perfumes and whatever else. If you can get in on bulk buy like Rocker...

    New research on dry yeast

Fermentis website shows a product called E2U that sounds similiar to what the above claims are. It also looks like this E2U has been around for quite some time but I have never seen it at home brew shops. Would be nice to be able see this research or hear more about it. Hope to see something...

    KegLand.com.au... whata ya got?

So Keg Land can service gen 1 and 3 but not gen 2? Is this just temporary or will it be an ongoing thing?

    New research on dry yeast

Wyeast is simply making recommendations for homebrewers not necessarily the "best" way to store yeast.

    KegLand.com.au... whata ya got?

Pretty sure Home Make It in Clayton will swap any CO2 cylinder. They just check to make sure mine is in date when I swap it.

    KegLand.com.au... whata ya got?

I bought a co2 cylinder off these guys. Problem is no one on the east side of Melbourne will swap it. Keg King won’t. Narre brew Supplies can’t so I’ve got to go to Grain n Grape which is a cut lunch away. Pretty sure Home Make It in Clayton will swap any CO2 cylinder. They just check to make...

Starter Kit or The Complete Joy of Homebrewing Kit

I agree with MHB. The Complete Joy of Homebrewing was written in a completely different era of Homebrewing. It is still very relevant and timeless but you may find it easier to buy a ready made kit (something that wasn't available for CP) from your LHBS. Consider your budget and time you want to...

    Kit beer for yeast starter?

It will work since it has fermentables in it. Probably not your best option for a starter though. Kits have hops and specialty grains added to them which may or may not impact your starter yeast. If I were to go through the trouble of collecting yeast from bottles I would try and grow it on...

    No Rinse Sanitizer

Home Make It in Melbourne has a no rinse phosphoric sanitiser similar to StarSan and StellarSan. They call theirs QuickSan.
