BIAB and No chill - Beers coming out overly hoppy

Which two were they? I find that Aussie made APA's use too much crystal malts and result in a sweeter tasting and subdued hop character in the beer. While crystal malts may be a signature of APA I thinks hard to find them that strike the right balance. If the two you tasted were imports they...

    Pressure rated stainless fermenter.

How about on the count of three you each tell who is making what so we at least know you are both talking about the same thing. Also if the source is the same it's already been told to both of you and technically no longer a secret so you are welcome to share.

The state of AHB and mental health

Very unfortunate that this happened. FWIW I have come across several of your posts and learned a lot from them. I have never thought they were condescending or insulting. Some threads where I thought I had something to add I haven't replied myself because I thought you had already addressed the...

I think telling a new SVB user to remove the overflow pipe and watch over their mash is much less risky that what many users will do with the return pipe in. I see too many videos and posts where users start their mash then "go make breakfast" or whatever else. Somewhere along the way SVB became...

I find my overflow pipe does it's best work on the shelf. Sealed the hole up with 1/2 inch plug and nut. It's only purpose is a fail safe to prevent running the kettle dry. Better to be a responsible brewer and keep and eye on what is happening rather than relying on your machine to do this for...

The consistency of your mash is probably closer to others than you think. You have to account for the dead space in your mash tun and single vessel systems have a lot more dead space than most. If you measure the amount of water it takes to reach the bottom screen its about 6.6 litres. If you...

As previously stated if the malt pipe is completely removed it's just bad fly sparging. So yes, technically correct if you are set on defining it. Best just to leave it as sparging and not try and put into a box as it's not a good example of either batch or fly.

It seems like a pointless argument but since we can't get past it I would have to agree with WEAL. I would take it one further and say you can't batch sparge unless you have a second vessel with your sparge water to put the malt pipe into and then drain into your first. Pouring water in batches...

Maybe it's best not to try and define what you're doing and just leave it at sparging with XX litres of water. Here are couple things I find useful. Stir the mash a couple times throughout and recirc to clear the wort in last 20 minutes give or take. You'll see when it's clear. If you mash...

    Keg Transfer Made Easy...

If you have a blockage somewhere a process of elimination would easily sort out where your problem is. How do you know the beer isn't just moving slowly? Is one of your kegs on a good scale so you can see the change in weight?

    First brew

Sounds like the U Brew It could use some scales so they don't overfill your kegs. No need to have the gas off or at just 1 psi. Set to about 12 psi and you'll be good to go. And don't forget to check for leaks once everything is connected. Once you lose an entire gas bottle or worse yet beer all...

How to get started in Cider. The definitive(ish) guide to beginner&#39

If you want more sweetness why not just add some sugar after you have poured your cider into a glass. Works for your coffee, no reason it shouldn't work for your cider.

    Getting Beer Out!

If all 7 kegs are already carb'd then go refill your cylinder now or buy another cylinder. Always good to have a back up anyway. Could also get a soda stream adapter and use that if needed since a lot of petrol stations have them.

Did I kill my Yeast ?

Might be a good idea to go back check your thermometer. You said you were using a new system so maybe your mash temps were higher than you thought and your wort less fermentable.

Did I kill my Yeast ?

As coalminer said...how are you measuring your gravity? Further to his point if using a refractometer, are you correctly calibrating it? If you're using a refractometer after fermentation have you adjusted for the presence of alcohol? Or better yet, just don't do it. If you're using a...

2020: Best commercial glass 375ml bottles for homebrew ?

+1 for Asahi bottles and their box. The boxes hold up well over time and other bottles fit well in them since Asahi bottles are taller than most others.
