2017 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

I've gone with this stuff: https://www.bunnings.com.au/grunt-3mm-x-60m-assorted-colour-utility-cord_p4310579 Second year in a row using the same cord with almost no visible wear. Yes it involved stripping off the bines, but it really didn't take long. The strength of the cord pretty much...

    Hop Dealz Australia

Would be keen to try the Victoria as I've planted a rhizome this winter. It would be a good few weeks (possibly as late as almost Xmas) before I'd be able to report back though so no issues for someone else to have them if a shorter time frame is needed. Thanks for the opportunity and...

VIC 2016 Xmas in July Case Swap - TASTING

    18. Curly79. Chocolate and Rum Oatmeal Stout. 6% Expecting a gusher I opened this one slowly over the laundry sink. Glad I did as this one is definitely a boy. Managed to get nearly all of it in a glass and then did a secondary pour to tip it off some pretty hefty yeast trub that had been...

Vic. July 2015 Case Swap Tasting Thread

Cheers for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is one of my favourite yeast strains. Acts like Brett, looks like Brett, smells like Brett, tastes like Brett, but Brett it ain't...http://www.whitelabs.com/sites/default/files/644_Explanation.pdf It even ages like Brett! It's really...

VIC 2016 Xmas in July Case Swap - TASTING

    10. Grainer - Viennella Saison Deep golden colour with a slight haze. Tight white head with great retention and lacing the glass nicely. Can pick up the fruity hops on the nose as well as the expected saisoniness (that is an official word by the way). Light mouthfeel and well carbed. Quite...

As an aside, have you had a chance to brew with your own styrian goldings? Many similarities to those shipped over from Europe? One of my all time favourite hops!

2017 Hop Plantations, Show Us Your Hop Garden!

To join the chorus, my chinook was last up last year and same again this year. It's interesting to note the different growth rates in my hops. Victoria, goldings and Canterbury goldings are are growing like the clappers while Mt Hood (my best producer last year) and cascade are only just...

    Hop Irrigation

Mardoo knows what he is talking about - I followed his advice exactly last year and it worked perfectly: http://aussiehomebrewer.com/topic/87275-2016-hop-plantations-show-us-your-hop-garden/page-11#entry1316873

    M44 Mangrove Jacks

That would have been me - I've all but eliminated US05 in favour of M44. It kicks off quicker, doesn't get in the road of the hops and flocculates better. Handled a triple IPA (10%) just fine, including bottle conditioning without any issues. Massive fan.

A pleasure. I'm amazed at the difference between first year and what's already shooting through on my second year plants. It's an excellent extension of the hobby.

Nice one mate. Enjoy watching them grow. I use hardwood timber stakes knocked about a foot into the ground - drilled holes in the stakes and then run my strings up to the roof. Worked well last summer and have done it again this year. As an aside, I'd recommend getting some pea straw mulch...
