    Best base fridge for kegerator

100%. Buy once and cry once. Building stuff always costs more than you think it will, and takes longer than you think it will. A bar fridge with a collar to enable it to hold 4 kegs will likely also look pretty ugly. I spent a couple of grand last year making a keezer and shelling it to match...

Beer transfer from Growler to Corny Keg??

^ What he said. The only way it may almost work, is if you used something like a pressurised growler, then ensured they did a closed/CO2-purged transfer (doubt it), and then you did a closed transfer to your own keg. While I know it's not what you're asking for, I think if someone didn't at...

    Coopers Australian Pale Ale Kit

I think it's ingredient-related, rather than process related; though I do agree that beginners probably have fusels and other hot characters contributing. It could be the isohop, adjuncts in the kit, or just the process of making extract, but something in the core ingredient causes "twang" to...

Mod meltdown 2 here we go again

I agree with the comment made in the other thread that being a mod here is an unenviable position to be in right now. Yikes.

    Grain Storage Barrel

I use the 35 L from Bunnings to store 2x 10 kg bags of Barrett Burston pale (aka pilsner) malt. 18 kg is pretty spot on as to what it can hold. I always make a well in the top of the grain and put a DampRid canister in. Pretty satisfied.

Is it a single prize pool or are there separate prizes for each forum?

    GUTEN

Yep. Luckily I 1) still had my old 19 L brew pot to hold everything (I do 8.5 L batches), and 2) the false bottom stopped most of the grain from getting to the pump. Pouring off wort, ladling grain, rinsing bits of stuck grain with wort, blasting some tap water through the return hose to clean...

    GUTEN

That moment when you dough in, and think it went in so beautifully, mixed well and not a dough ball in sight. Then you think "hang on, I'm covering up the return pipe". ...and then it hits you: the entire malt pipe is still sitting on the bench. F$*#

Kit and Kilo Brew - Going off?

Is your water chlorinated/chloraminated? Medicinal flavour could be chlorophenols. The amount of chlorine in your water can change, such that they may be undetectable in one brew and horrendous in the next. Beyond that, kit brews always have a character to them. Much like instant coffee, you...

    home improvement question

Guys, have a look at the post history. It’s unclear whether this guy is playing a long trolling game or is just lost on the internet.

    Taste test

It sounds like you've already done the most controlled experiment you can: each beer was brewed by you -- one kits and bits and one BIAB (which is all-grain). I'm not sure what tasting someone else's all-grain will tell you, if you're happy with your own results from both techniques. What's...

    KegLand Questions and Answers

Either way, whether you use a plastic device with plastic fittings or a keg with stainless ones, there’s a risk of clogged poppets. Doesn’t matter if it’s a device for fermenting or dispensing. You’d have to cold crash and use a floating tube with a filter. Just amusing that the answer was a...

    KegLand Questions and Answers

Not to mention that point #2 makes no sense, as the Fermzilla also has poppet valves with springs, but has cheap plastic shrouds instead of stainless steel. There's otherwise little difference in fermenting in a keg vs. a fermzilla. The point seems to be more about cringing at fermenting and...

    KegLand Questions and Answers

Australia Post has been quite slow for the past 4-5 years, unfortunately. I used to live in a rural town and would get items from Sydney (500 km away) within 48 hours with regular post. When I first moved to a metro area, it was very briefly slightly faster than that, then has progressively...

    Off the shelf AG systems

I just noticed the S40 doesn't have PID control. If that means it only has bang-bang control (similar to the Guten and Brewzilla), then I'd have to question why anyone would would spend the extra $300 to get a product with a Grainfather badge that isn't functionally any better than the cheerful...

    Off the shelf AG systems

Another advantage of the Grainfather is that it comes in a 30 L version, which is presumably better for small batches than the 40 L Guten, without going for the eye-wateringly priced 20 L Braumeister.
