    Two hour boil

Efficiency is what you get from the mash, once you have extracted the sugars from the mash that stays in the wort. Prolonged boils just condenses the wort, the sugar content remains stable which will give a higher SG.

    Biofine Clear and Silica Safety

The alcohol in the beer will get you first, bananas are high in potassium and silicon dioxide I suspect that over the centuries it has been used it would have come to light before now if it was dangerous to health.

    Suck back on cold crash

Well it isn't going to harm you, I presume it is 21 litres? I'm not sure if it will have any effect on the taste. Well 21 litres in a 30 litre fermenter so I have 9 litres of CO2 in the head space once the pressures equalise at 100 kPa. There is very little resistance offered by the cling wrap...

    Suck back on cold crash

I have tried a few things when cold crashing and have gone back to the tried and trusted method of cling wrap over the top of the fermenter. How much air gets pulled into the fermenter, anecdotal evidence for me suggests none. Only because I haven't had an oxidised beer bar one which was almost...

    Two hour boil

Why not boil for one hour? Water additions, I have read that there is 1.9g/kg of magnesium in malted grain so more than enough magnesium to ditch the Epsom salts, though Martin Brungard does say he adds a pinch of magnesium to his brewing water. 11.22 g of chloride seems a bit excessive. Reading...

Alternative to cooling coil. Dual Temperature Vest.

Well if you mean where does the probe plug in, it is the hole at the side of the STC, but using the Max with a junior keg then the business end of the probe will have to be taped to the outside of the keg. So it will be right against the vest, the source heating/cooling so I will have set the...

    Whats In The Glass

Tonight my Foreign Extra Stout, two long necks is my limit, just too strong, while very desirable it just isn't a session beer. Notice how the head dissipates, a sign of high alcohol content. The stout I have in the fermentor at the moment will be about 4.5 ABV so I can enjoy a few more.

Alternative to cooling coil. Dual Temperature Vest.

So the Dual temperature vests are in stock, got myself a vest and a Junior jacket with some silicone tube to fit the barbs. I don't need the Kegmaster Chilli Unit. I will be using the Thermentor King Max, not looking to go to low a temperature so suits my needs just fine. As an aside there is a...

    Braumeister - Tips & Tricks

There is another post where I clarified the working of a ball valve, the ball valve has two positions open and closed, they were never intended to be throttled. In the other post I explained that instead of throttling the flow I fitted a stainless washer with an id opening of 8mm. Just for...

    Continuing Jokes Thread

For some time, my wife's had this ridiculous idea that I'm playing too much golf. Actually, it came to a head at about 11.30 last night. She suddenly shouted at me: "Golf, golf, golf. All you ever think about is bloody golf!". And I'll be honest, it frightened the life out of me. I mean, you...

Alternative to cooling coil. Dual Temperature Vest.

I popped over to Keg King today and got some photos. I did check the temperature setting and it was on minus 6C, so presuming it hasn't been changed from the video. The water glycol wouldn't be much more than a litre as it is cooled by counterflow.

No, not that much at all. It's only a small unit. There is a quick glimpse of it at 42 seconds in the video.
