Induction brewing... anyone doing it? What induction element do you use.

I've been looking at moving to an electric kettle recently and whenever I've gone down this rabbit hole in the past induction elements have seemed like a good idea. I've read this method is pretty big in Germany and to me it sounds perfect as I just want to boil my wort in the kettle and I want...

Buying or setting up an electric boil kettle

Thanks Clickeral for your detailed response. I really appreciate it! I guess I'm looking to bring 39/40 litres to a rolling boil using a standard Aussie power point. I'm a little electricity illiterate so talk about about amps and watts confuses me somewhat. I don't mind installing an element...

Buying or setting up an electric boil kettle

Thanks. I hadn’t seen the CP ones. Funny as I emailed them about the Blickmann elements and they never mentioned these when they replied. Any advice on choosing an element and controller?

Buying or setting up an electric boil kettle

Yeah, I know a crown urn would work but for some reason I don’t like that idea as much as a proper kettle. Induction is another solution I’d be keen to explore but my frustration here is that none of the ones available in Australia list how much weight they take.

Buying or setting up an electric boil kettle

So maybe I buy an SS Brewtech kettle, Blickmann Boil Coil & KegLand controller. Then I need to drill the holes in the kettle and convert the power cord to Aus... or just buy an adaptor. Can’t believe in 2019 this is the best solution but at least it’s a workable solution.

Buying or setting up an electric boil kettle

Thanks. Yeah, I've been looking at the BoilCoil. Brewmart stock them. Only thing holding me back is that they have the US type plugs and I'd need to buy a controller too.

Buying or setting up an electric boil kettle

I'm after some advice around buying or setting up a ~40 litre brew kettle. I've been brewing for the last couple of years using my gas kitchen stove - which in my old house was pretty powerful. I just moved house recently and the new gas hobs can't really bring a full volume of wort to a...

Wanted: upright fermentation fridge or freezer - Preston VIC

Hi, I'm looking for a fermentation fridge or freezer. It needs to be able to fit a brew bucket or a 19L keg (separately, not at the same time). Also needs to be able to chill to zero degrees (I'm happy to buy a fridge and then hack the thermostat to achieve this). I plan to hook it up to an...

Hacking the thermostat on a fridge so it chills to zero

I'm still trying to work out my fermentation temperature control. I had decided to bite the bullet and buy another freezer for fermentation temp control. I've been looking for a second hand upright freezer on gumtree as I like the idea of just opening the door and doing gravity transfers...

    Fermentation temp control in winter

Just wondering if anyone controls temp in winter with just a temp controller (MKII, Inkbird etc.) and a heat belt? In other words can you allow the ambient temperature to cool things down. I'm in Melbourne and my garage is pretty cold around the clock. I'm thinking the temp never gets above 14...

Tubing for gas and liquid lines

Hi all When I built my keezer I didn't really pay too much attention to what tubing I used for what purpose. I had a lot of 4mm ID tubing that I used for my liquid lines and I used this for the gas too. Some connections I used Kegland Duotight push fittings and others I used barbs with ring...

Oxidation from dry hopping with Brew Bucket

Hi all, I've just tapped my latest IPA which I put a lot of effort into and... it's oxidised as f@*k. Gutted. Still, trying to see this as a opportunity to improve my process. It's either than or crying. The main thing that was different with this brew was that I was using my new Brew Bucket...

    First sour beer

I've been brewing for a couple of years now and I want to take the plunge into sour beers. I've been reading Milk the Funk Wiki and I thought I'd give their Berliner a go: http://www.milkthefunk.com/wiki/Berliner_Weissbier#Milk_the_Funk_Berliner_Weissbier_Recipe A couple of recipe questions...

    Beglian Blond recipe subs

So I went with Weyermann Caraamber. It seemed to be a good sub. For the hops I went with Northern Brewer and it was in a substitution chart and had a similar alpha acid %. I'll try and remember to report back on how it turn out. Thanks all for the advice.

    Beglian Blond recipe subs

I'm looking to brew the following recipe from BYO.com and wanted to check with the collective brains trust (you) that my substitutions are going to work out. I always find adapting recipes to stuff that's actually available at my local store to be difficult. I've stuffed it up in the past by...

    Brut IPA advice

Thanks for this. Looks like a straight forward recipe. Interesting that it doesn't mention what type, when and how to add the enzyme to break down the unfermentable sugars. Or is the idea with this one that the grain bill and mash will only produce fermentable sugars so the enzyme isn't needed.

    Brut IPA advice

I’ve been brewing for about 18 months now. Mainly pale ales and IPAs as I just wanted to dial in my basic process before I started branching out into anything requiring additional knowledge, equipment or technique. I pretty happy with my basic process now and I’m thinking of branching out and...

Storing in kegs - off the gas

Hey all, I'm new to kegging and I have a couple of questions: 1) I have a couple of kegs but only a limited gas setup. Can I keg a beer, purge it with CO2, store it at room temp and then cool/carb a month or two later? 2) If I have a keg that's already cold and carbed will it stay carbed if I...

When to increase fermentation temp for an IPA

Hi everyone, I've got an IPA* that's been in my fermerter for three days now and it's only 4 points off it's target final gravity. My plan was to have this beer in the fermenter for two weeks and to increase the temp when I dry hop at the half way mark. However, since it's approaching FG after...
