    CraftBeerPI Brew Controller

No worries, thanks Pete - not a big deal to hit the pump switch. I think I am going to hook it up to a cheapo 7" touch screen like they've done here - http://www.leaningman.com/2016/05/automated-brewery/

    CraftBeerPI Brew Controller

I've just installed version 2.2 and started testing it - it looks really good!! One question though. I have a kettle and a pump and I am just wondering the best way to automatically turn the pump on/off at different times? Or does a pump need to be run manually? I've found the 'PumpLogic'...

    Stainless conical fermenter advice needed

Thanks for taking the time to draw it up, that might actually be an alright solution. I might do some more digging and see if I can track one down!

    Stainless conical fermenter advice needed

The cone is about 6° flatter than the apparently ideal 60, but it needed to squeeze into the fridge! Not sure if it is micro-polished?? It looks like any other stainless pot I have...

    Stainless conical fermenter advice needed

Sounds interesting. I've done a search though and can't come up with anything. Would you have a link to what you are talking about? Not 100% sure yet. We currently employ something very similar to the old glad wrap and rubber band - we use a clear vinyl (foodsafe) that has been heat molded to...

Great idea but I'm all electric unfortunately so can't boil it

    Stainless conical fermenter advice needed

I'd need to get the ferrule welded into the fermenter, which is basically the whole reason i am going for the weldless 1/2" fitting. I can easily drill a hole and fit the valve myself but I'm thinking that getting the weld done would be costly, and I'm all out of favours with the mate!! Mmmm...

    Stainless conical fermenter advice needed

Yeah this fermenter will be a 'lower spec item' ;) I understand the risks but it will be taken out, thoroughly cleaned and sanitized after each batch. I'm pretty anal about cleaning and santizing so I'm pretty confident to take that risk. If i had more cash I'd be going for the tri clover but I...

    Stainless conical fermenter advice needed

I've had a mate build a conical fermenter for me and I still need to sort out the racking port/valve. The plan so far is to drill a hole and use a standard 1/2" 3 piece ball valve attached via a weldless bulkhead. Question is, do I need some type of dip tube/racking arm internally or will it...

    Help with a stout recipe

No idea, you'd have to ask the recipe calculator :) Thanks, that makes sense. Not sure how much (if any) hop flavour is wanted/needed in a stout. Think I better go grab myself a few stouts before I try to brew one!!

    Help with a stout recipe

Thanks razz, yeah I thought that but I have Columbus and cascade in the freezer so thought I may as well use these. Am I right in thinking though that the hops are going to be pretty much only used for bittering and there will be little flavour coming through anyway? So I'm wondering how much...

    Help with a stout recipe

I'm brewing a stout with a mate who knows nothing about brewing. And I know nothing about stouts. What could go wrong? I've cobbled together this recipe, could someone tell me if this is likely to turn out tasting okay? It falls within all the style guidelines using Brewers Friend for the...

    Immersion chiller leakage

The main reason being that with everything permanently plumbed, i just need to add a bucket of ice water, plug in the pump and go. I'm lazy basically. I figure if i soak it immediately after brewing it should get most off it. If not, oh well, it can get boiled up on the next batch. It's...

    Immersion chiller leakage

I have a question about immersion chillers and whether or not a leaking chiller (with the chilling water going into the wort) would likely cause an infection. I've permanently installed my chiller into my urn so there are fittings going through the wall of the urn. I'm testing it at the moment...

    Arduino controller help for BIAB

Haha no just waiting for the slow boat from China. I ordered all of the Arduino bits and bobs from ebay so just waiting for everything to arrive. Could still be another 2 weeks before it all arrives!

    Arduino controller help for BIAB

Thanks for the tips. I did check out mathos controller previously but couldn't really find the info i was after. I'll have a look at ardbir. But as a start i have outsourced the programming to a bloke in the Ukraine! Sent him a detailed spec of exactly what i want, he sent back a list of bits i...

    Arduino controller help for BIAB

Awesome thanks Paul! The pumps each draw 0.65 amps http://www.cheekypeakbrewery.com.au/index.php/everything-mashing/wort-pumps/product/183-brown-pump-1-2-fittings I'm just planning on using an old phone charger or something similar for the power. I think they are normally about 2-5 amps...

    Arduino controller help for BIAB

Thanks paul. So i use a 12v wall wort, wired to the regulator power supply and this is then used to power the arduino? And I am using the SSR's to switch 5v only and not 12v? Is that correct?
