    help with tripel

1.060 is very low for a Triple, so you might as well go ahead and add some dextrose to the fermenter. Crank the temperature up while you’re at it (24C) and hopefully the yeast have another crack at getting that FG down. You want to be around 1.010 FG. In my experience, adding another pack of...

Hunter Valley / Newcastle - best AG shops

Brewman/Steve would have to be one of the best home brew suppliers in all of Australia. The quality and range of his malts is better than I’ve seen anywhere. Plus I think he’s the only place now to supply Wyeast. The Newcastle Homebrew store is also good, but their ingredients list is a bit...

Does anyone have any information about this years event, and when it is going to be held?

    MillMaster v MaltZilla Mills

I bought a mill motor from Keg King. It’s a lot better than using the drill I started off trying. It has a lot more torque than a drill so it powers through the tough stuff like wheat. The motor connects straight into the mill, so it was easy to setup. Don’t remember the cost.

    2023 Hunter Homebrew Comp - 24 June

Another great competition day by HUB. Has got to be the biggest prize pool of any comp in Australia. So well run this year and a great day to be involved with, and so many terrific people to share beer with. Stoked to win Champion Brewer. I can't believe it. Thanks to everyone.

    2022 NSW State AABC Comp

Yes I suspected I was a bit early. However the website did say they’ve received a couple of hundred entries already with limited places left. Which had me asking the question.

Has anyone been able to register for the competition yet? I can’t find a register link anywhere.

    2022 Hunter Homebrew Comp - 4th June 2022

The comp day was great. Over 160 beers were judged, so a very busy day for the judges and stewards. It was a lot of fun again and a great chance to try a lot of different beers. The scores seemed quite a bit lower this year than last year even though I thought the standard was pretty high. The...

    2022 Hunter Homebrew Comp - 4th June 2022

When I dropped my beers off a few days ago, they were over 100 entries so far. So it’s a bigger comp than last year.

Regarding cold side oxidation, how long a beer can stay on yeast, and other questions

My first beers in comps had descriptions of oxidation recorded by the judges. As a new brewer I couldn’t see how everyone’s beers weren’t oxidised given how things are done on a homebrew scale. I set about changing how I did everything post fermentation through to bottling and it’s made a big...

    2022 Hunter Homebrew Comp - 4th June 2022

Tripel Karmeliet is my favourite Tripel. I haven’t brewed one yet. I like my big, hoppy IIPA’s. The one I entered last year was my very first all grain beer. It was past its best at judging time. Didn’t stop Mark scoring it very highly though. 😁 I learnt a lot from that beer. I do everything...

    2022 Hunter Homebrew Comp - 4th June 2022

What type of Belgians are you entering? Belgians are my favourite to brew and drink. Especially the Dark Strong Ales. I’ve got a La Trappe quad clone that’s got a year of bottle age, and also a Rochefort 10 clone I’ll be entering.

    2022 Hunter Homebrew Comp - 4th June 2022

No courage required. At worst you’ll get some great feedback from the judges to help improve your beer. I got a couple of tips from last year I’ve used ever since. At best you might win something. I won a bunch of different stuff for my RIS last year which I wasn’t expecting. So you might be...
