    Stainless threads galling.

Teflon tape is usually fine on its own for the home brewer. In the food industry we can't use Teflon tape but have other food grade options such as thread sealant for pipe fittings etc on water lines and anti sieze for nuts, bolts, unions etc. All food safe and I even use the anti sieze as a...

    Stainless threads galling.

In my experience any effort to remove will be futile. I work with stainless a lot and have never come across any grades that do not require anti seize. Maybe you have just been lucky until now and have a bad batch of threads in this instance, once they start to bind its all over! My experience...

    malt pipe question

FYI I have had a FB quoted in wedgewire by a company who supplies a lot of breweries and they have spec'd up a 23.5% open area FB with 0.7mm opening slots. I have made quite a few FB's in perf sheet and have always gone for the 20-25% open area with no issues. I do use a diaphragm valve to slow...

    Shiny shiny 1V recirculating rig

Impressive! Where did you get the diaphragm valves from? I have a couple of 1" ones on my new system but I was surprised at how expensive they were. Any reason you didn't go butterfly valves? And yes, sight glasses are awesome! Wouldn't build a brewery without one now.

Mash tun has a manway on the front for spent grain removal. Brewery cleaning will be done with a pressure washer as none of the pumps will deliver enough pressure for a spray ball. Provision for sight gauge on HLT only. HLT will have pressure transmitter for volume indication via PLC...

Victorian 2017 Xmas Case Swap - Recipe

Total theoretical volume is just over 900L. The boil was very late in the night so cant recall what our boil off was but when we got to the boil there was no massive eruptions so I would have thought 800L pre boil volume could be a target. Then allow maybe 8% boil off and 40L kettle losses and...

SHould I buy a 100L Pilot Brewery From China?

Yep and never could get it to run so canned that idea and now get it brewed off site. I know a couple who have ordered Chinese breweries and have turned out ok. At the end of the day you're going to get what you pay for to a large degree. Even the best of the Chinese breweries stuff up the...

If it helps get us to 600L I could bring a MT that can hold 60kg grain also. How much do Idzy's eskys hold?

100 litre 3v electric brewery build

Nice link, I see now what you were talking about with getting extra air to the KK burners! After some testing last week I was going to try simply open up the inlet slots a bit firs but loosk like they were designed as low pressure and KK sell them as med/high pressure so gonna need more air as...

FYI you can get 3 way hygienic valves if you fork out some more $$. I have a couple for a current build and was impressed with how well the seal and easy they are to clean. Search plug **** valves on Geordi's site. They only have a manual option though Interested to see how far you take the...

    Husky's 2.5BBL Collaboration Brewery Build - 3V 300L

Yep, up to now could use everything for something else. Big pump and PLC I don't really have any other use for. Side note: I did get some gasketed heat exchangers quoted from a couple of suppliers we use at work(Alfa Laval was one of them) cheapest was $4k so will be finding a couple of cheaper...

PLC ordered - Went the better model of the same family of PLC's on the 1V. This one has much more expandability so could be used to control all sorts of other brewery equipment in future projects(mill, chiller, fermenters etc) Pumps ordered - Decided to order three pumps to allow the mash tun...

    Husky's 2.5BBL Collaboration Brewery Build - 3V 300L

There is plenty of hygienic control valves around that I could use. For now it will ne manual adjustment of valves to get required temps. Thinking of running 2 x chillers a cold water pre chiller and a chilled water final chiller and just regulate the chilled water flow manually for now. This...

    Husky's 2.5BBL Collaboration Brewery Build - 3V 300L

Nice one, did not know you could get a single phase motor VSD, banked for a future project. Got any examples of trub traps that work? I'm pretty confident that with the diameter:height ratio I have made the kettle that WP will be pretty good. Perhaps just some stainless rings maybe 30mm high...

    Husky's 2.5BBL Collaboration Brewery Build - 3V 300L

Have asked them for a quote, don't think they do double mechanical seal as an option though. My mill runs a 3 phase motor on VSD from a single phase but pretty sure it doesn't work the other way with a single phase motor. We use Alfa Laval a lot for work but I'm too scared to ask them for a...
