    Power demands on household electrics

Mine is similar, I ran a 15A point to the shed when we moved in using a 6mm core cable pair from memory, this runs to a sub board in the shed with RCD's. I'm about to run a 16mm pair to the same board for a 60A circuit to run the new brewery. The 16mm cable is approx. $3/m and you need to run 2...

Yep have done for 5l lager starters.

    Rolling boil

35 mins sounds ok but need to know your volume. Looks only half full if that so when you do full volume might blow out to 1hr + Run the boil at normal volume for 30 mins and measure your boil off rate is what I would be doing. Are you sitting a bag of grain in there? Are you lifting to ramp temps?

    Mill Motors

Thanks mate but its more a geared motor question than a VSD question. I have plenty of motors around both 1 and 3 phase but they are all either 1450 or 2900rpm and I want a geared one to somewhere between 150 - 500rpm that I can them put on a VSD. I haven't heard great things about the single...

    Mill Motors

Thanks LC, I have plenty of suitable 3 phase motors as this was my original direction using pulleys but I'm now thinking geared drive. I notice some mill manufacturers offer a pulley version with bigger shafts and better bushes to deal with the higher side loads so thinking no pulleys for my...

    Rolling boil

Electric is great for these smaller batches. My 20L 1V has 5kw that I can vary from 0-100% and if you are a sparky I would suggest more power then play around with volumes and boil off rate. The bigger power allows a good ramp rate then back off to the boil vigour that you want. As you say...

    Mill Motors

Anyone using a more industrial type motor similar to this: https://www.allamericanaleworks.com/shop/180-rpm-power-grinder-grain-mill-motor/ I was originally looking for a pulley set for a 3 phase motor I have but decided against it due to higher side loads on the mill so I'm back to looking for...

    Rolling boil

Ooohh nice shiny stainless! What was that from before you re purposed it? Assuming your start of boil vol is 50L or so in the 70L tank, 4400W is on the light side I rekon. From memory I use approx. 3800W to boil 30L getting 10% evaporation and it's a visibly good boil. I would test your...

The 2017 Melbourne Grain Bulk Buy

Thanks to all for organising. I have only been to a few of these and this one was by far the most organised and smooth. As soon as I rocked up I had MJ's young fella throwing sacks of grain in the ute before I had even mustered up the motivation to start looking for my grain, awesome! Cheers guys!

    Dry Hop in Fermenter Advice

I find they always settle on the top for a day or two then drop. Since I use a conical I like this aspect since once they drop there's not a lot in contact with the beer and sometimes pump C02 into the cone to rouse them up again. So on the surface = good I rekon as you have good contact...

Will upgrading my brew pot improve my beers?

I think you are asking the wrong question. It should be "will upgrading my brew pot improve my happiness". A new pot will be a lot less unlikely to improve your beers than would additional process improvements as others have said. If your current pot works keep using it and add some additional...

    The Foragers Drop

No idea mate! I had been to 2 breweries until they closed before realising I knew where I could continue finding craft beer into the night! Needless to say I don't remember a whole lot after drinking some tasty bottles from behind the bar @ foragers. It does make sense though that I wanted a...

Yeah, I didn't read the description just looked at the pics in the hope of stainless **** but was disappointed. Licenced so you can charge $$ on site after reading the description. Must have a friendly council.

Low attenuating(<70%) yeast suitable for medium gravity APA

Commissioned the new brewery a couple of weeks ago and buggered up the strike water temp. Target mash temp was 66 deg but it dropped as low as 60 deg for a good 20 mins before I sorted out a way of ramping it up. I'm pretty certain most of the conversion was done by the time I started ramping it...

100L 1V Internal Rims Build - Advice Sought

    1. You want solid sides on the basket so you can recirculate and clarify the wort. My original 1V has a basket but the wort shortcuts out the sides and not through the grain bed so I had a piece of thin stainless sheet that I used to coil up in the basket to give solid sides and worked much...

100 litre 3v electric brewery build

I have been told that anything over 50A "should" be hard wired. Have you seen a plug and socket that will do the 63A even for $250?
