SG increase from dextrose or other sugars

Mark, Thanks for taking the time to explain this. Your contributions on this forum are always extremely valuable. Not to detract from your extremely thorough answer, however if anyone else ever looks for this: SG=(4x)/1000+1 therefore x=(SG-1)*1000/4 3.192/24.72=0.129 or as a percent...

SG increase from dextrose or other sugars

Pretty simple question but i cant seem to find an answer without converting from ppg to i dont even know what. Anyone know a formula to calculate the SG increase you get from dextrose or other sugars in KG/L assuming dextrose has an extract potential of 1.046?

Large Scale Recirculating System 500L +

    Using the same % ABV's as above: 5% - 100kg - 157kg/m2 - 0.33m high grain bed 6% - 120kg - 189kg/m2- 0.40m high grain bed 7% - 140kg - 220kg/m2 - 0.47m high grain bed So not quite ideal. I checked the numbers before i forked out for these and figured that even though they're a bit tall and...

Large Scale Recirculating System 500L +

Hi Guys, Ive scored 4 large SS304 pots, 0.9m diameter x 1.2m high am im planning on building a big ass brew system out of them. Ive got a couple of questions about design and lautering i wanted to run past everyone and see what options are actually available vs steaming ahead with a build...

    Full Volume Efficiency Questions

Thanks for the replies gents, I built my setup as a 4V HERMS so i did go the recirculating route. Turns out from my recent googling it was more of a K-HERMS as i had the volume split over the HLT/BK and MT, recirculating through the HEX. Both HLT/BK and MT are converted keggles. Essentially...

    Full Volume Efficiency Questions

There is a lot of bad information around I agree. and to make it worse every book has a different definition of efficiency. I will continue to play with this full volume mash and see what happens but I don’t see the numbers jumping considerably as I can usually get 100% conversion in the mash.

    Full Volume Efficiency Questions

Hi All, Recently thought id try my hand at full volume brewing as something to try and as a way to save time by cutting out the sparge all together. Ive read lots of old threads online of people saying they're getting 75%+ efficiency and im just trying to figure out how this works in a full...

High ABV Saison - Candi Syrup

2 hours after transferring onto the yeast cake fermentation has started - it’s swirling and off gassing, now I’m worried I would of essentially over pitched with it being 1.076 wort. We’ll see what it turns out like, hopefully it at least gets some of the Candi flavours

Here’s my cobbled together 4v setup. No fancy control panel yet just a dedicated 30A circuit and 6 10A plugs on the back wall. Double batching last night, got one on the boil and another mashing, took me a while to dial it in but it’s working good now. The cheap $10 kettle with 2.5m of copper in...

Witbier - adding spice or fruit during/post fermentation

ive got a witbier fermenting with wlp400, going slow, 1049-1030 in 7 days and it’s still chugging away and in high krausen. Tasted the sample today and it’s a bit strong in the chamomile and not so strong on the bitter orange or coriander. I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth adding...

    Hefeweizen Bottle Conditioning

I was freaking out a bit this morning. My first Hefeweizen 1.049 OG was bottled on boxing day morning (48 hrs ago) after the gravity settled at 1.012, about 10 days in primary at 17c. I just used corn sugar / dextrose and a sugar scoop in each bottle and its been on the concrete floor under...
