    My first extract brew

Yeah I started the same way back in 2008, then moved to full boil partials with say 2kg of LDME and mini mashes. Been doing AG since late 2008 and don't think any other way. Keep it up and keep trying different stuff.

    Show us your brewrig

Here's mine. It's at version/upgrade #4 since going to AG back in 2008. 40lt HLT, 60lt jacketed mash tun, 60lt kettle, HEX, magnetic pump, STC 1000's for temp control, built in timer all flows controlled by ball valve including underletting in the mash tun. Now if only I could get the timer on...

    My first extract brew

Stove top brewing with LDME is a great way into good quality beer, you'll never look back. Sub some of the dex for some steeped specialty grains. Steeping is dead simple. Start with say some pale crystal at around 250grams and go from there. Cheers, Gavo.

    Grain mill design

About the same as I did except my end plates are made from angle iron. Same bearing mount and adjusting type system. Works great.

    My mill motor

Don't worry, the mice will find it. Good to have a good mill, mine does a 9kg grain bill in under 2 min. It has 90mm rollers with a motor similar to the size of Stu's.

So went to bottle a few beers to share, liking around for stuf..... Fond some bottles, no caps anywhere... Bigger, what to do. So threw a half a keg of APA in a bucket, threw in a picnic tap, now just need some ice and piggyback on someone's co2 bottle.

12c - 25c, So pretty warm huh? Was around 2 below 0 here this morning, frost was on the ground at 11pm, hoses and tank lines to the shed were frozen solid. Good thing the tank lines to the house are underground. Will be bringing a few bottles of my dodgy beers tommorrow, looking forward to the...

Welcome to the fourums ohgoodthinking. Seems to be quite a number of Toowoomba brewers here these days. I have become one of them moving here at the end of last year. And yep the guys at the local home brew shop are great to talk to and always hapy to help out. Cheers, Gavo.

Where did the water volume go?

I didn't throlle the flow back this time as I didn't think it will be an issue. The faster flow rate by pumping out to the kettle was most probably the cause of the issue. Will need to give it a try on the next batch as I can throttle the flow either by the ball valve or voltage control to the...

Where did the water volume go?

Oh, about half a meter of head on the suction side and at the time only had cavitation once the wort was drained from the MLT.

Where did the water volume go?

Hmmm, fluid in the lines would account for half liter to a liter at most, spill was minimal. I havn't changed the rig configuration and only put the HEX in the system. I am using a little brown pump and recirculation is painful due to a lot of head for the pump to work against. However, flow...

Where did the water volume go?

Well I finally went and added a HEX coil to my brewery after many years of running a simple 3v rig and have come up with a curious result. Other than airlocks boilovers (due to having my back turned while efficiently cleaning while starting the boil) this one has me a little beat. In my usual...

    Danstar BRY-97?

I reckon it could do this. I have a fermenter with BRY97 ATM, it seemed like a slow start however I could see that the break material was sitting at the top of the fermenter which I find is the result of the yeast working and creating enough CO2 to float the break material and atached yeast...

Trying to split a packet dry yeast

As you can see a lot of people here re-use and culture yeast, its one of the easiest ways of saving some more coin per brew. I will was yeast from time to time, but mostly these days I split a smack pack into five splits and make a starter when needed. If i am fermenting with the same yeast...

Trying to split a packet dry yeast

No need to split the pack (I do split liquid yeast packs). Just pitch the whole pack then save the resulting yeastcake in a tallie and pitch it into the larger brew.
