    2019 Hop Plantations

So mine are ticking along well but they are growing at different rates per string. Some have nothing. Some have burs, some have proper cones. Am I going to have to pick at seperate times? Also have a few lower leaves getting munched, and a few look to be really struggling in BRISBANE heat and...

Grainfather - Counterflow into kettle first and then into fermenter

Just curious, u intend to cool a bucket or esky of water down and then u drop ur counter flow chiller in that while transferring to lower ground water temp? Or are u actually pumping the cooled water through chiller instead of ground water?

Drilling A Hole In The Side Of A Fridge?

does the gas bottle not fit inside? or is there a preference to keep it out? even if it didnt you could always just grab a small bottle to keep your kegs topped up, and do your initial forced carb through your main bottle. you can even grab filling attachments for the small sodastream bottle so...

    wild yeast? phantom ferment?

might have to fork out for a counterflow chiller, still dont think it will get down to pitching temps with brisbane weather (in summer) though, i suspect might get me alot closer though.

    wild yeast? phantom ferment?

50ltr batch, it was 10kg GP, 1.4 flaked oats, .6 munich. 42ltr mash @67 for 75 min, 25ltr sparge. used the mangrove jack whirlflocks for the first time though, they ask for 1 tablet per 19ltrs so i dropped 2 in.

    wild yeast? phantom ferment?

yeah id love to but with brisbane ground water being around the 25+ mark i have no hope of that :( i dumped it and made another batch. fermenter had a good hour and bit soak in pbw, loosened the bfly valve assy to get under the seal as well, then a good hour of sanitizer. same recipe, same...

    wild yeast? phantom ferment?

took hydro but too much bubbles on top to really tell, if it has dropped its not much at all. the foam is a slimy/stringy feel to it though. dont think i want to risk a snot beer coming into the busy Christmas months. RIP.

    wild yeast? phantom ferment?

i had taken a hydrometer sample last night, this has NOT shown any signs of life which would make me think this was caused in the fermentor. makes me think this must be an infection. the fermentor got a pbw and starsan bath so im a bit perplexed as to how but im just going to dump this one, have...

so dry hopping.... i used the collection container to throw about 400g of hops in just before i went away for work. came back and the hopes are just a visible compressed hop cake down in that container, a lot of them still pellatized, im thinking maybe i should have dumped a tub or two or trub...

Basics Of Making And Using A Yeast Starter

^^ pitches it last night anyways, bit warmer than I wanted at about 25 but it was bed time and wouldn’t take long to cool down in fridge, it was absolutely smashing away this morning, about 1-2 inch krausen. Can only assume it’s just the way this yeast acts.

Basics Of Making And Using A Yeast Starter

Quick question. Made a 3ltr starter for some wlp hazy over the weekend, 300g ldme, fermentation did not seem very vigorous and appeared done after about 18 hours. I left it another 12 and the cold crashed. When I went to decant off the top there was no yeast cake to be seen, the yeast was down...

Thanks again some great advise. And to the two of u mentioning sparge ph I’m hoping u hit the nail on the head, it’s not something I had considered, I had only been adjusting mash ph so made sure to do sparge water too over the weekend along with the other suggestions of no salts, no cambden and...
