    Gas leaking from ball lock

    I'm not sure what it is called, but I had the internal O ring bust on my gas disconnect. The one around the pin. Maybe pull it apart and check inside. Good luck.

    You'll need to use a calculator when using a refractometer if fermentation is underway. Do you have a hydrometer? You should get an accurate reading from that.

    +1 I use PBW but the same method. No need to fill right up. A good shake every now and then helps to remove anything stubborn.

    Frustrated with end results

    I used the Coopers recipes for a while when I started out. Cans, hops and grains. In just about all of them I really had to increase the hops above that in the recipe to get something in the realm of what I was expecting they should be like. What are some of the recipes you have used?

    Just looking at hops, the IBUs are much lower than that - if you're after a Pacific Ale that's like commercial versions. You've got a total of 70+ IBU.
