Brewzilla 35L grain going through the pump

Third time lucky with all the advice given here!! No grain getting in the pump and I controlled the flow. There was still an issue with the lack of draining down through the grain even with the flow quite minimal but I improvised with a tea strainer. I think I was not nearly generous enough...

Brewzilla 35L grain going through the pump

Yeah I did for sure. Did not realize that, lesson learnt there :) Interestingly I've watched many of the brewing network ones, quite like watching Gash brew. I always skipped the 65L brewzilla ones he did but tonight I watched them and sure enough that's where he mentions both keeping the outlet...

Brewzilla 35L grain going through the pump

Thanks so much guys. Found another video on youtube that talked about the grain getting sucked back up the pipe and how to control the pump speed. Both those things I didn't realize and I'm sure that's the cause of both my attempts. Everything is starting to make sense now phew... I didn't use...

Brewzilla 35L grain going through the pump

Ah i just realized what was meant by the back up the pipe comment. That's interesting, and would explain why I never find any grain outside of the malt pipe. Assuming the best solution is to actually avoid turning it off to start with - what can i do to reduce the rising mash? The return tap...

Brewzilla 35L grain going through the pump

With the bag I would have thought this is impossible. How do you condition the grain? First time I milled it myself, second time my local home brew store did for me.

Brewzilla 35L grain going through the pump

Thanks for your replies! The second time around the grain was finer than it was the first time. The second time also did not have the return pipe connected due to the bag. Would the grain crush being finer be why the water was not flowing out of the bag and malt pipe very well? Should I...

Brewzilla 35L grain going through the pump

Hi, I'd like some advise to work out where I keep going wrong. I have a brewzilla 35L that I've used twice now and both times I've ended up with grain getting into the pump system. Apologies on the lengthy post, I've included as much detail about my experience as I can. The first time I was...

Is my local homebrew shop giving me good advice?

I added the dry hops last night after it came back as 1020. I'm hoping when I test it tonight I find it is continuing to drop with a bit of luck.

Is my local homebrew shop giving me good advice?

The OG was 1051. I do have two hydrometers. I started using the second one to confirm two tests ago but the results are the same. I do have some us-05 in the fridge so I might try rehydrating and pitching as suggested tonight. When pitching do you just pour it straight into the foam layer or do...

Is my local homebrew shop giving me good advice?

Did another measurement, no change in gravity reading. That's actually 3 days running. I'm kinda upset at myself not insisting on purchasing yeast separately now. The yeast that was in the kit was M44 US West Coast 10g Gave it a gentle stir up as suggested to see what happens but I'm starting...

Is my local homebrew shop giving me good advice?

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I might try some LME for my next batch. Is it a good general rule to use LME instead of the dry extracts unless otherwise stated then? Never tried it yet so it's all a learning curve for me but I have been eyeing off the cans. I'll see if I can warm it up a...

Is my local homebrew shop giving me good advice?

Hi Everyone, I've been lurking here awhile but since I got a question I thought it was time to finally register. I only started kit brewing probably a bit more than 2 months ago. Learnt some things about it along the way especially not to ever trust the yeast that comes with the cans (my first...
