    Laser Eye Surgery

Not had it done myself, but a mate had it done a few years ago and he swears by the results. We were only talking about it a few weeks ago and he said that he may need to get it done again as things are deteriating a little. Cost around 4K and it seems, well in my mates case anyhow, you will...

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

Good idea. Seeing is believing :) Thanks razz. I have an old washing machine that has a built in thermostat that alows a maximum water temp setting of 90 deg. I will use the pump with the HE to start with and maybe adapt it in other parts of the brewery over time. Cheers Q

Dedicated Herms Guide, Problems And Solution Thread

Watching this thread with interest. Got me thinking about piecing together a temporary HE to guage the difference it makes before going full bore ahead with all the right gear. I understand the additional uses of a march pump outside of the HE but for a quick mock up HE could I use an old...

    Tempmate Probe Installation

I just place a piece of foam around the probe and tape it to the side of the fermenter. Not the most scientific approach but it works. Set your tempmate to the correct temp and away ya go!! My fridge probably turns on/off way to many times but I couldn't be arsed working out how to run the...

Water - Is It Ok To Use Hot Water Tap?

FFS.... I've been drinking water from the tap all my life. Still do it now. If I'm outside doing stuff around the yard and feeling a bit parched, I turn on the hose and have a drink. Have been using hot water from the tap for cooking, washing etc. If I make a coffee or tea in summer and don't...

    Calling All Sunshine Coast Brewers

I was putting together an order for Craftbrewer today and had an idea. Rather than have it posted, I decided that I would drive down to Brissy and pick it up. SWMBO has been wanting to go to Ikea for a few weeks now - so why waste the trip  So here's the rub..... I am happy to...

    When To Add Water

So with my standard 12 litres + 3 litres top up, I should run 7.5 litres and stop - add 3 litres and sparge the final 7.5 litres? I generally give the mash a good stir after adding the initial 12 litres and allow it to settle for 15 mins or so before draining. Should I do the same after adding...

    When To Add Water

Will continue with the 12 litre sparge and add 2-3 litres half way through. That should give me the required volume without extracting any nasties :) Cheers Q
