    ESB Kits - Anyone used?

When I used them around 2002-2006 they were excellent, especially with a good dry yeast and temp control. I combined with steeping grains and late addition hops to great results. No need to add additional fementiables unless you want to for a 21-23l batch.

    English Mild

Not really a mild if it is at that ABV. Scaling up my Mild recipe it looks very much like a porter. Is that what you are aiming for or are you aiming for more a Southern / Northern english brown ale?

You can just crack open the valve open with the racking hose adaptor installed and then fill up a small glass / jar. You do not need to turn the valve around 180 degrees and instead just turn the valve back to the lock position, just check that it has sealed well I do this sometimes if I am...

    Yeast failure?

It will catch up then even if you do not rehydrate. Since moving back to dry yeast I have been experiencing better performance with hydration but I did experience reasonable performance from just sprinkling on top. Personally give it 12 hours and see if there is any change and then make a choice...

That is a nice update Steve. I still have a bit to go through up here in FNQLD but this change will make the next order easier to get together.
