    EOI Oxygen scavenging caps/crown seals

Hi, I am in Melbourne and missed this one too. If anyone over ordered and is happy to split too I would like to give these a try. I am in the northern suburbs. Cheers.

    coffee plunger for hops

I have used a plunger twice recently. First time I brewed with fresh hops. I then dried some whilst it was fermenting and then instead of dry hopping I stuck them in the plunger for 30 minutes and then poured in when the ferment was nearly finished. I let the water get down to 75 Celsius in the...

    KegKing now at keg-king.com.au

I got the same threatening email too. I bought a co2 cylinder from the eBay store last week. Delivery and product is all fine, but the email is a disgraceful way to say thanks. It was the first email received after handing over my credit card and was from Donald too. I stuck a screen grab of it...

    BIAB pre boil gravity NQR

Lax, I changed the batch size target setting from Fermenter to Kettle. It was 13L in the Fermentor and I changed it to 16L in the Kettle. 16L is what I ended up with in my Kettle from my 19.2 L boil volume. 3L of this is trub in the dead space, hence why I had 13L set for Fermenter target...

    BIAB pre boil gravity NQR

So I think I have it figured out now. Changing the target from 13 litres into the fermenter to 16 litres end kettle volume has made my numbers make more sense. Plugging in my recorded OG of 1051 now shows an efficiency of 80% post boil. The pre boil estimate it gives now also matches my...

    BIAB pre boil gravity NQR

Hi, I have done about 10 BIAB this year and am really enjoying the hobby. I seem to always get 65 to 66% brew house efficiency. That hasn’t budged since my first brew in the crown urn. This has allowed me to brew consistently and hit my targets, but something doesn’t seem right. I took some...

    BIAB - first go NQR

No worries Ronix, the guys around seem really helpful to everyone. When I went to a brew session recently at Grain and Grape the guy running it suggested swapping out 5% of my grain bill for a wheat malt in an ale will help with head retention and mouthfeel. I have done that with the last two...

    BIAB - first go NQR

I had another go over the weekend and many of my processes improved from the advice given, but i still ended up a fair bit off. I lowered my grain bill to 3kgs and worked on 10 litre of loss to evap and trub in brewersfriend to aim for 12 litres post boil I mashed with the full 21 litres from...

    BIAB - first go NQR

Thanks for the info Ian, I will find your spreadsheet and refer to it too. I thought the element cover was a bit of a waste but went along with the suggestion. As I am only brewing small amounts I can probably suspend the bag off the bottom tied to a piece of dowl resting on top of the urn for...

    Small Batches for Recipe Tweaking

I have done 6 batches into the 5 Litre Demijohns and have had good results. I really like seeing the beer ferment too. The kids think it is better to watch than the fish tank. I use an 8 litre stock pot for the mash (the whole thing fits perfectly into a standard esky during the mash) and a 12...

    BIAB - first go NQR

Thanks for all of the responses, I really appreciate the advice. Stouter - I ended up having to mash with a bit more than 9 litres as it was really dry, probably 13 litres. I reckon the element cover I put in took up too much space for a small brew. After the mash I lifted the bag and placed...

    BIAB - first go NQR

Hi All, I have finished my first BIAB using a 30 Litre Crown urn and wasn't able to get anywhere near the volume expected into the fermenter and the gravity was way higher than expected. I would appreciate any assistance I can get for my next go. Before this BIAB attempt I have been...
