What are you brewing in 2017 ?

First brew in a long time... First brew in NSW... First brew on a quickly scrambled together rural system... Very simple hoppy APA Found some Maris and some Crystal at the local HBS. Had plenty of Galaxy and Simcoe in the freezer needing attention. Plenty of yeast to use up and chose MJ M42 New...

    Moving to Mildura

Mayor, A brew day sounds good... My rig does a comfortable 80 litres and is certainly not a pretty unit. I haven't had much of chance to run it over the last couple years so I'll be having fun relearning it again... I'll meet up with you soon... Cheers

    Moving to Mildura

Rad, I'm glad the beast is doing its job. I've visited the brewery a few times now in the last month and will probably spend a bit more time there on my first week whilst I'm stag. Happy to meet up for a beer or two down the track. Thanks lads, I'll make sure to contact them... Cheers

Anyone know from experience if you can grow hops and veg. in same pot?

Having two hop varieties in one pot will make life difficult in knowing which hop is which when it comes to picking them. Some hops and vines do look different to others but unless you can tell by looking at them, separate them to make life easy.

    Moving to Mildura

So in a bit over a weeks time I'll be living and working in Mildura. Research has led me to believe the "Mallee Mashers" haven't been a functioning group for many years and I'm just wondering what sought of AG brewing scene there is in the area currently? I've seen the name "Mayor of Mildura" a...

I dont understand HERMS - but I want to

This is how I set up my HERMs. You will find prettier set ups but mine works so I'm happy with it. I have a 100 litre Esky mash tun and I just use this coil stuffed into a Kmart kettle which is controlled via a temp controller. The HERMS circulation is ran by a kaxion pump and I have the temp...

    What would you brew?

I'd use some pilsner and caramunich II and maybe a little roasted barley to make a red ale...any of the hops will suffice. Or sub the caramunich II with the extra special. Both would make a tasty red... Plenty you can make with those grains... My first red ales consisted of only base malt and...

getting a crisp finish on my beer?

Even with malt extract you should be getting lower than you're getting... Just a thought, have you checked your hydrometer in water to test if it's correctly calibrated? It should read 1.000 I've had a hydrometer read 1.004 in water which means if I measured a beer at 1.016 then the actual...

    Keezer, stc query

I'm not a sparky Spog, but if I were to do what you are wanting then I'd run it from the same point as the fridge/freezer is plugged in at. So when the temp controller wants cooling, both the freezer and fan kick in. The fan would only be 12v so it shouldn't need much more power. Happy to hear...

    Herms coil

I ran my 100 litre esky mash tun using one of these coils for HERMS. I just dumped it into a Kmart kettle and ran the kettle off a temp controller. Worked fine with no lag. Then the HLT element blew so the HERMS was then used to heat the strike water direct in the mash tun. Worked no worries.

    Keezer, stc query

I'm with the submerse in water group. I run two keezers and both are setup with the probe in sanitised water. One is a Briess 1.5kg malt extract tub full of water and the other uses an empty keg that doubles as a reservoir for the flooded font. It's about 1/3 full. Too much volume and you'll...

20 of Victoria’s best country pubs

Excellent, now I can see. For those interested in visiting any of these you may be disappointed when walking into the Royal Mail Hotel in Birregurra. Not so much of a pub anymore and a terrible list of beers compared to their list of wines. Foods OK but that's all I'd go there for. Also a pub...
