    US05 for a Lager?

DMS is usually creamed corn, sometimes a bit cabbagey. S189 can chuck a bit of sulfur - if it smells a bit farty and a bit car exhaust, it'll need a little time for the sulfur to dissipate. Fermented at 16c it should eventually end up pretty clean.

    Belgian Beerfest 2017

My sheets arrived today. For anyone else who entered the saison category... prepare to be surprised (pleasantly or otherwise) by your new scores.

    Queenstown Craft Beer

Smith's and Atlas are both solid for beers and views. For bottle shops, try the Henry's next to the supermarket on Shotover St. Avoid any store called Betty's (bright green signage, hard to miss) - the beer there is almost always a couple of bucks more than everywhere else.

Merri Mashers IPA Comp 2017 Awards and Prizes

300 scoresheets. 4 scoresheets per entry. Works out to about $600 - reckon most of this would've gone on feeding the judges.

Has Robobrew overtaken Grainfather for product price point?

Maybe a reduced need to innovate in brewery equipment building frees up minds and time to innovate in recipe development and brewday technique instead?

Has Robobrew overtaken Grainfather for product price point?

Not sure about how the Robobrew temp controller works, but on the Grainfather it's a detached box which the pump and heating plug into. If you throw the box away and hook the pump and heating up manually, there's not a computer chip in sight. I'm struggling to comprehend how doing such a thing...

    VICBREW 2015

Message for Sandy Erskine of no club, in case you're on here... Looks like your Northern English Brown and Belgian Strong Golden got entered into the reverse categories. Thought the brown was pretty damn tasty; hope there's something useful in the feedback despite the harsh scoring for having...

what venues can't be missed in melbourne

Vintage Cellars on Lt Bourke between Swanston and Russell. Small but good craft section, cluey staff, and has Chevalier and Trois Monts in the big fancy bottles for those BYO "wine-only" places.

    Small-scale brewing...any recommendations?

I've been doing 10 litre stovetop batches in a tiny apartment for a couple of years now. Here's what my "system" is made up of at the moment: - 19 litre pot. The Big W ones are fine, but I've switched to a Tuffsteel stainless as it was only $10 more at the Vic Market, holds a boil better on an...

what venues can't be missed in melbourne

Might be time for another visit. They've had local craft on half the taps for ages now. http://nowtapped.com/belgianbeercafemelbourne

what venues can't be missed in melbourne

There's always the 86 tram crawl. From south to north, starting just outside the CBD: Catfish, Gertrude, Forester's Hall, Two Row, Terminus, Carwyn Cellars. And probably some I've missed in between and beyond. And if you want to link it up with manticle's suggestions, the 250/251 bus from...

MM Case Swap - Tasting Thread

    8. Parktho - 'Hop Suspension' ESB I got one of the flattish bottles. The cap came off super easily and the carb is low. Ah well, imagining it's from a cask :) Nice malty base with some tropical tones - guessing hops combined with yeasty esters, as there's a bit of banana coming through. On the...
