    Shearwater Tas water profile

Without looking at any references, that is a pretty blank slate water profile. You could get away with adding as per recipes assuming distilled water. Better would be to add to beer smith or similar, adding the raw water and target profile. At the least you should add some gypsum to the mash for...

    Are We Wasting Co2?

Been to a fish fry and crawfish boil in the us with 50 lt keg with a hand pump. It's standard for hire over there from my understanding. Seems logical if it's all going to go and there are lots of pissed people around.

    Huge batch pitfalls?

I recently downsized, partly for convenience of electric and partly because I found double batches were reducing my appetite to brew new and experimental beers (40l of crappy 8% beer is hard work!). Many obviously make it work for them but food for thought.

Purging oxygen from keg with shaking

Won't the yeast chew through the o2 left in there anyway?

    BIAB vs Robobrew

Hi, I went from extract to double batch biab.. that was great but petty much on a par with the robobrew for cost (keeping in mind I had double batch capacity). I've just recently downsized to the pump version robo due to having two small kids and not being able to make the time to keep me away...

Beer burning my tonsils out! help!

Seems most colas have a ph of 2.5 driven by phosphoric acid, so I don't think starsan would be getting it too much lower than that

Have I pitched the yeast too cold?

Update, the brew came to life and has a massive krausen. In the end the temp difference would have been about 8c so hopefully not too big a drama

Have I pitched the yeast too cold?

Yep, but if you Leave it to sit after oxygenation it'd loose the o2 back to ambient right? Partial pressures, mumble mumble

Have I pitched the yeast too cold?

I think wort only has capacity naturally for 8ppm or so. I reckon it'd loose the excess above that provided by oxygen quite quickly. It's been a long time since my last chemistry or physics lecture though, so I'm sure someone will supplement these comments with some facts.

Have I pitched the yeast too cold?

I believe it is termed 'German ale' yeast by fermentis but Ross at craftbrewer recommended it as a kolsch yeast and quite a few around the traps also. I've had good results for kolsch in the past. I think it is probably the go to in dry yeasts for kolsch. It was vac packed, repackaged I think...

Have I pitched the yeast too cold?

Yep, thanks all. I'll heat the cube up next time. Poor forward planning and Sunday arvo rush whilst juggling kids are my key excuses. No fermenter action at this stage, so I may have shocked the poor wee yeasties. Close to identical to the other half (not cubed) of the double batch, so it should...

Have I pitched the yeast too cold?

Hi all, please redirect me if this has already been covered but I could t find much with a quick google. I'm wondering the impact of pitching too cold.. Reason being that I have just started no chilling and on the weekend filled the fermenter, started rehydrating my yeast (k97 kolsch) and...

    Priming in a keg

Why bother with priming, just out of curiosity?

    Hops and bitterness

In my humble opinion, yes it will come through. Choose an appropriate hop but I'm sure a slightly elderly discounted hop from craftbrewer, who store them well, will be fine. I'm not a fan of the JS range, so can't advise on a hop type though. Have fun, you'll make much better beer all extract.

Why do ALL of my can kits taste bad?

I'm beginning to think some people are sensitive to the twang and others not but it's always there. Just like some people are more sensitive to dms than others. Unfortunately I seem to be pretty sensitive, as I'd love to be able to get away with kit brews rather than use up brownie points on a...
