Gerringong homebrewer seeking club/group of awesome people to talk bee

A bunch of the IBUs were running our own big brew day out at Callala Bay on the same day. You could have made it a double brew day! There are other events on the IBU calendar to keep an eye out for but up in Wollongong. This was the first one in Callala but there's a good chance there'll be...

    Prison/Improvised Grog?

Reminds me of a link someone posted on this forum a few years back. It's a blog called "steve don't eat that". Scroll down to volume 8 and he describes his experience making replica prison hooch. Then read the rest of them because they're fkn funny, especially the Cuitlacoche one. I was in...

    Sediment at top of bottles

Out of curiosity could you get a gravity reading of the beer from a bottle after opening? The gusher suggests its still fermenting whether its infection or just the yeast doing its biz. Unless you overdid the carbonation sugar. I haven't used the Brew Cellar yeast but the site confirms its top...

NSW 2013 Xmas in July Case Swap

I don't really care what type of bottle I get. I have heaps of bottles laying around from my pre-kegging days. For people thinking of pulling out because there won't be enough time to brew, as long as you haven't stuffed it and can get it into the bottle before the day you should be OK. Of...

    American IPA

It's interesting to hear you say this Scotty as I've always suspected that my beersmith calculations for bitterness did not match up with the percieved bitterness and put it down to getting more IBU's out of the late additions than is conventionally accepted. My method usually end up like this...

    first time Stout

No Roast Barley? In my opinion you can't make a stout without a bit of the roastiness that RB imparts. I aways pop in at least 5%. If you don't like the bitterness of the roast barley you could offset it with some carafa. maybe another 5%. It is de-husked so adds the flavour and colour without...

NSW 2013 Xmas in July Case Swap

Promise I won't forget to bring my beer this time. (yes it did happen in an illawarra swap ) Do we have a specific weekend fixed for the swap? I'll be in qld for the first half of June so if I'm not about I'll have to give my beer to one of the southern road trippers. 1. Cortez the...

    Stopping brewing and selling up

I don't post much on the forum but I must say it is sobering to read a story like yours and thought I should add to the tide of well wishes. I had one of your beers in a swap a few years back and it was one of my most memorable swap beers so don't lose that touch! I hope things come good for...
