    No. Yeast type decides about beer being lager or ale. But you can ferment your kit with ale yeast to get an ale.

    Yeast does not care. You will make, hopefully, a nice ale.

    Dry Yeast in Freezer, is it Kaput?

    I freeze yeast collected from the starter and mixed with water+glycerine solution. The oldest I used from my frozen yeast bank were from February 2021. I always make a 1qt starter even from dry yeast. This way I know that they are active.

    Lagering

    My kegerator holds 4 kegs and the temperature is set at 52F (11C). As long as there is still beer in the keg this beer is lagered at 11C. Ales are lagered, too. I have only 3 taps, so it takes usually ~1 month for the newest beer to get connected to the tap. This way my lagering time is minimum...

    Saflager 34/70

    I buy 3-packs on Amazon in USA to get it cheaper and then bank starters mixed with glycerine and water in the freezer.
