    Trying to make connections :)

Hi Callum, I just moved to Bunbury a few months ago so I'm in a similar boat to you, in that I haven't tapped into the local brewing community yet. I have joined the west coast brewers which is Perth based, they have a meeting once a month which I try and get to. If you're interested I can give...

Made cider out of kellybrook apples

I picked up fresh apple juice is Tasmania for $1 a litre while I was down there for work. The day I picked my 20l up a truck was leaving with 10 1,000l pods of the stuff, which was going to their cider brewery. Made my brewing aspirations feel a little insignificant. My cider's progress OG...

Albury Wodonga and region Grain BB Take 2 with $44 perlick 525ss

Hi, I've nearly finished building my brewery, I dabbled in all grain brewing about eight years ago but only made about 5 brews and didn't have any guidance other than the John Palmer bible. I still have about 50kg of malt left over which I'll give a go at using, hopefully it will be OK but I'm...

    VB Clone

I cloned a Big Mac a couple of years ago just for the hell of it. It was hard to get the special sauce right.

    It's Apple Season

Hi Greg thanks for the info. I did some 'fart' smells during the first couple of days of ferment but they have now disappeared.

    It's Apple Season

Hi Greg, Thanks for the info. I didn't add anything after primary so hopefully MLF is taking place. Ambient temp is 20 degrees so I'll leave it for a couple more weeks and then check on it. Do you use nutrients in your primary? I have a cider fermenting with no nutrients which is going quite...

    It's Apple Season

Good to know. I was working down in tas and tried to find side of the road apples to blend with assuming that a wild grown apples wound generally have higher bitterness. I had little success, although I found a number of apple trees, the trees bearing generally had sour fruit. Due to the...

For the benefit of Southern Tasmanians (possibly all of Tassie)

Good luck with the cider, you will need to provide updates. I've got their juice fermenting at the moment OG 1.055 Volume: 20l Temp 20 C Yeast: Propagated from Sprayton Vintage Cider No Nutrient Fermenting slowly after 7 days the SG was 1.048. On that rate it will take 8 weeks to reach an SG...

    It's Apple Season

Hi Greg, From what I've researched apple trees produce a decent crop every 2nd year with other years being quite light on fruit.

For the benefit of Southern Tasmanians (possibly all of Tassie)

It is in sprayton, 96 Sheffield Road, Their contact details are on their web page http://spreytonfresh.com.au/ You will need to get in touch with them before hand, organise what you want and drop off the containers. I found them very friendly and helpful, typical of a family ran business.

For the benefit of Southern Tasmanians (possibly all of Tassie)

I got the juice from Sprayton, directly from the juicing shed. They were kind enough to draw off the juice straight after pressing before it went into the bottling line where the preservatives are added.

For the benefit of Southern Tasmanians (possibly all of Tassie)

I picked up 20l of apple juice from Spreyton Juices for 20 dollars. They gave me preservative free juice which was made the day before I picked it up. The only thing you need to do is supply your own bucket or containers for the juice. They also have a great range of ciders which are called Pure...
