Using plastic wrap to seal fermentor

I found it awkward. No great drama though - the question was for pros and cons so I was listing them. Thanks for the more dignified response than the following one.

Using plastic wrap to seal fermentor

And I'll say goodbye to Aussiehomebrewer again for another few years. The complete lack of respect and tact.

    Pursuing Certain Flavours

Forget about targeting Asahi Super dry, or any specific lager. For pale lagers in general: Pitch proper rates of healthy yeast. Oxygenate using pure O2. Ferment with close to zero oxygen exposure from the time the yeast are pitched until drinking. Control fermentation temperatures to within 0.5...

Using plastic wrap to seal fermentor

I did it many years ago. It's handy to be able to see into the fermenter. You can see when yeast are actively fermenting because the glad wrap bulges up. CO2 escapes easily. Bugs can't drop in. It makes it hard to add dry hops and will let oxygen in if it's left for too long after...

Coopers Kit Cans For Beersmith 2 - Download Included

The weight of fermentables in Beersmith will default to whatever it's set to default to (you set it in tools --> options --> units.....in the 'weight units' row) - on mine I set 0.5kg. If you use a 1.5Kg tin of liquid extract, you change the weight to 1.5kg. A pre-hopped kit tin is (I think)...

    Stuck fermentation

THat's good! I wouldn't bottle US05 at 1.020 (on a 1.047ish beer) - there's probably still quite a bit to ferment. You could also dissolve about 100g of sugar in a bit of boiling water and add that to the fermenter to help kick-start they yeast, then leave at 20+ degrees to finish. The reason...

How are you measuring gravity, refractometer or hydrometer?

    Tax on cheap imported beer

I was talking to someone about alcohol taxes this morning, and got to thinking about cheap imported beers. As most who've gone to a bottleshop looking for a cheap lager would know, imported macro lagers are now often cheaper than Aussies. In particular, at the moment I can get 'Tun Bitter' at...

    Easy Siphon

I have the 3/8 GandG siphon. It works well but is slow. I previously bought a keg king one - first one arrived cracked, was replaced with a new one which still didn't work (they were having problems with the ring seals) so they sent me a replacement kit for the seals, but it still didn't...

    Bottle carbonation

^^This. (I use about 140g though - my wife likes her beer fizzy).

    Aussie bitter ale

Boags XXX ale. I think it's still an ale rather than lager - definitely has some yeast fruitiness.

    Hobart Grain Order

I'm after some english crystal malt, pale chocolate and carabohemian (if I can get it). Postage from the mainland is prohibitive, so I'm considering ordering 25Kg bags through one of the brewshops. I don't want the full bags, so am looking for interest in splitting them into 5Kg batches. I'd...
