Fermenting Fridge To Sit On My Washing Machine

Hadn't thought about the vibration, that's a good shout. I'll sit on top of it next time it's going and see what sort of vibration I get. No dryer, the fridge is going to be where the dryer would be, SWMBO is not happy.

Fermenting Fridge To Sit On My Washing Machine

Hi Guys, Due to space requirements, I am wondering if anybody's bought a fridge that fits a fermenter and would sit on top of my washing machine? Thinking that volume would probably have to be 160L or higher. Preferably without the freezer :) Used to have a big fridge back in Scotland but no...

Back In The Game - A Reintroduction

Hi Bribie, great to see you're still here! Having a 1V build certainly helped with regard to cost, but I'd really recommend Seven Seas worldwide. They charge by the box (with a maximum weight of 25kg per box). Mine was only about 130GBP for two boxes. So definitely worth it. Just be prepared to...

Time to Move to Gas? Converting my RIMS Build

This was in the UK so perhaps not so bad. It usually melted during mash out. Happy days. Maybe a lower-powered element would solve my woes? Something like this...

Time to Move to Gas? Converting my RIMS Build

Hi All, I had been brewing with a RIMS build which used a 3KW element which was designed for immersion heaters. While powerful, it would always seem to burn out the wires (probably due to my wiring skills). I was planning on resurrecting it after another burn-out but just snapped one of the...

Back In The Game - A Reintroduction

Hi All, Hopefully some of you remember me, I'll give you an update on my life since AHB, and my return to brewing! In mid-2013 I had to return to the UK from Melbourne because I couldn't get a permanent residency. My girlfriend and I did long distance for 3(!) years while she could get her PR...

'Doughing In'- How Long Can I Take?

Sorry for my late response guys, thanks for the insight. I will give manticle's mash schedule a blast since I like to do something while mashing! I'll also give the potato masher a go, that's a great shout! :)

'Doughing In'- How Long Can I Take?

To be honest mate I've been trying to get the grains in ASAP so far which has led to some slight overflow and some grains in the wort. Not a huge issue but not something I want during the boil so I try and seive it out. I think you're right. My mash control is still pretty basic so if I start...

'Doughing In'- How Long Can I Take?

Hi, it's a 1V system so need to heat the water up in the vessel. Do you think it would be better or worse if I poured the grain into the malt pipe first then lowered it into the water once it was up to temperature? I suppose I could let the water in gradually that way? Thanks for the reply :)

'Doughing In'- How Long Can I Take?

Hi Guys, I am using a brewery similar to QLDKev's. I often find that when I pour in my malt into the malt-pipe, it sort of expands before it 'settles down' and loses volume. The issue is my malt pipe is quite small so it tends to overflow, but if I can add the grain slowly, it settles down and...

I Have A Dirty Little Secret...

Damnit, don't think I can get dextrose either! Would raw sugar be my best alternative??

I Have A Dirty Little Secret...

Wow, all these experienced brewers who carb-drop, but it's too late to get carb-drops now, will have to bulk prime this once! It just feels dirty carb-dropping, like I am still doing K&K! (not that there is anything wrong with that!)

I Have A Dirty Little Secret...

It's less exciting than it sounds I am afraid. I have never.... bulk primed :'( I know it's time I started, I've been brewing for a year and a half now! So, I am brewing a blonde, could you suggest an appropriate level of carbonation for such a beer? Also, can you recommend me the...
