Water profile for Coopers Pale Ale

Any water profile will do, but originally Pale Ale was made with Radelaide water which is slightly harder than most tap waters. ie, touch of gypsum, chalk and epsom salts , but this will all depend on the water your starting with

Put on a keg at local club

And another point, regardless of the nature of the function, if alcohol is consumed ( except in private property that stays on private property ) you will need to get some sort of permission to run the event with alcohol. Get caught without permission then you better like prison green

Put on a keg at local club

The ATO take a rather different view.. Homebrew club comp ( it it must be legit one, not just made up on the spot ) might be Ok...anything else, grab your toothbrush

    Mash out

The first runnings with boiling water come out under 78*c. Its not the third running that the temp hits the 80* mark You will be surprised that boiling water does not raise the temp as much as you think. When I first told brewers I used boiling water most of them them stood back and went WTF...

    Mash out

Batch sparging does the same. I always let it sit for 10-15 mins between recirc/sparge/running. Its all about getting da sugaz out of the grist

    Mash out

Its not the "mashout" that is giving you the extra OG, its more to do with having hotter liquid that dissolves da sugaz which is giving you a higher OG I ( batch) sparge with boiling water and when I first did it I noticed an improvement in eff %.

    Coopers Mild Ale

You have to culture it I spoke to Dr Tim about this and he went on to explain that the brewery yeast does not perform when de-hydrated so the only way was to culture it from a couple of bottles. He was all for culturing the yeast from the bottles. Great bloke and had a good yarn with him about...

    Coopers Mild Ale

I have seen the Coopers spec & Pale Ale is only about 25-26IBU, but for some reason, when doing my clone, I needed to calc higher IBU. And that was using Promash ( very old ) I always found that a good pale recipe @ ~ 4.5% generally only needs about 30ish IBU max to balance it The trick with...

    Coopers Mild Ale

Any decent Ale yeast Milds are really interesting to brew. They are harder than normal beers as you have to get the balance right, which means dropping your overall IBU a little and mashing high to get the mouthfeel the same as big ALC beers Light beer is even harder and more rewarding

    Coopers Mild Ale

Start with a Coopers Pale Ale recipe and adjust the Alc down to about 3.5% ( ie reduce your total grain volume ) Bitter with POR and late hop with SAAZ at about 10min ( 5 will also work) 10% wheat 5% Med Xtal 85% Pale Malt POR @ 60min to about 25-28IBU SAAZ @ 10-5Min to about 5 IBU
